Ask a Question

I have a year anniversary coming up and I am not sure what to gift my bf.

Its really hard to buy guys gifts but I am not sure what to buy him on our first year anniversary and how much to spend etc.

All ideas are welcomed!

Traditionally 1st anniversary is paper, so you could buy him a newspaper and wrap it in paper

I've never heard of this (but ive never had a 1st year ann either). So you mean like literally a piece of paper (am I talking rubbish here..)

Do people now buy for boyfriend anniversary. If your married different because if you start now what do you buy if you do get married. Maybe just do a nice meal at home movie and impress him.

I've been married for 5 years this year and together for 8. I've never bought my husband an anniversary gift. I got flowers and a card on our first wedding anniversary but haven't bothered since. Just have a nice meal and watch a film together, that's what we do. Unless you know there is something he really wants you are just buying for the sake of buying.

Also the whole paper for 1st anniversary is traditionally for when you are married.

We've just celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary and we didn't get each other anything

rls I don't think you need to buy each other something to celebrate how long you have been together. My parents celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary last week, they didn't get each other anything but had a chippy to celebrate!

Interesting! I am pretty much buying something for the sake of buying something, but I know he likes carrot cake so might bake that for him! I always thought first year ann was a big deal for some reason! Thanks!

MsLamboLova12 I am not saying it isn't a big deal, we just never made it a big deal. We didn't have loads of money when we first started dating so saw it as pointless to spend money that we didn't need to, we got each other a card and I got some flowers and chocolate. We don't do valentines day either and we don't do birthdays or christmas! If my husband wants something he buys it for himself!

MsLamboLova12 me and my husband aren't traditional romantics, but we do have our version of romantic things we do for each other, quirky surprises and nights in. Our anniversary my husband cooked us steak and we played Mario Kart, it's our thing to do and we enjoyed it. It's an each to their own type thing. If you want to make a big deal of it, do so. It's you celebrating your year together and how happy you make each other

MrsCraig MsLamboLova12 I have just been corrected. My husband did in fact get me an anniversary gift this year, he built me a potting table and shelf for the garden that was finished on our anniversary. At this point I would like to say it wasn't intentional that it was completed on our wedding anniversary, but more like a coincidence, but he's quick to point it out 😂

MrsCraig Aww thats nice and sounds very sensible to be honest I hadn’t thought of it from that point of view - as we don’t have a lot of money to spend right now!

I've never given an anniversary gift to a BF. Could you get get a treat for you both to share so it doesn't seem too personal? Does he support a particular football team? I've sent cards to husband and to relatives from their fave teams. (you give a donation and they get as many of the current team to sign and send it direct to the fan) This would also sort the paper for first anniversary issue too. I was tempted to send for an afternoon tea hamper recently but the one I wanted wasn't operating atm. There are lots of options that are less dainty 😆 . Look at the Snaffling Pig site, if religion allows, or Devon Hampers for cream teas, Not on the high street for treat hampers. You will have to return and tell us what you decided on just in case we need ideas.

angemski Oooo I have been thinking about a gift where we both can share the present like an experience or something!

Ooo he does support Arsenal but thats a good idea - i didn’t know they did signed cards etc!

Ahaha the hampers work for me religion wise as well but he’s vegetarian 🤦‍♀️ but Devon Hampers look good!

I’ll definitely come back and confirm what I actually did (although the ann is next month) im just being a girl and preparing for it in advance 😅

If I was your boyfriend...(luckily for you I'm already spoken for😂) I would like a basket of 'my favourites' - little presents showing that you had put some thought into choosing some things you know I love - especially food:

So:

  • A honeycomb
  • Lovely Cheese & Chutney & Biscuits for Cheese
  • A bottle of merlot
  • Balinese coffee
  • A Toblerone
  • Cadburys Whole Nut Chocolate
  • Some tennis balls
  • Something for gardening
  • Something DIY
  • Underwear
  • A book

Hopefully this sparks an idea or two.

I suggest you let your BF know that you will be giving him a gift and roughly what you'll be spending. Well in advance. Especially if you might be upset if he got you nothing, forgot about it being your anniversary etc. You know what boyfriends are like (Husbands are even worse!)

I hope you have a lovely day

Johnny😊

Johnny THANK YOU! I was actually thinking it would be good to get a males point of view on this!!

This is actually a really good and feasible idea! Im into online shopping these days as well! Thanks for the list that actually helps soo much for ideas! 🙃

I didn’t think about discussing prices range but I hinted about the ann plans today so he doesn’t forget -he would be in trouble if he forgot 😂.

Have a great evening too!!

MsLamboLova12 Thank you, and you're welcome. Men can be difficult to buy for, or so my wife tells me! 😊

If you do make a basket, set yourself a maximum budget per item and keep a list. It's all too easy to overspend!

Johnny Ahaha I agree with her 👀 I’m thinking of doing 12 items (like 12 months) but I agree, I get wayyyy to carried away when gifting others!! Thanks again!

Bake something or cook a nice meal, maybe make it a themed night like eat the same food you had on a first date or something

lornaae He does like carrot cake but slight issue is that his birthday is 20 days after the ann so I was saving the baking for his birthday😅 Aww themed night sounds like a good idea - probably should ask him though he might not find that cute as I do 😂
