My partner who suffers from a muscle wasting disability always gets an invite to have a flu jab as if he gets poorly he gets it worse than most. He has a job to walk but if he gets I’ll he can’t move at all. The only year he actually had the flu jab he got so I’ll with the flu that he couldn’t get out of bed for 2 weeks not even with help. It was awful. He hasn’t had the flu jab again and thankfully hasn’t been that ill since.

Doctor told me it doesn't stop you getting poorly it's supposed to stop you catching the flu which can be fatal especially in some people who have preexisting conditions. Lung conditions, heart conditions etc so you'll still catch colds and bugs but it should stop the flu or at least stop it being so severe

I had one when I was pregnant and I never had any side effects from it apart from a sore arm and I was glad I got it. I've never had it before and wont have it again as I don't feel I'm more susceptible than others but if I needed it then I would get it.

yup I totally agree with the need to get it through pregnancy as well youre too busy cooking a little human to fight off flu and baby would be at risk too. I worry as I come across lots of people in my day to day - I have been invited before but didnt go so no idea if it works or I risk been ill after

OneeyedRaven I remember being told the side effects and thinking it was better to feel lousy for a few days than to risk my wee one getting ill if I caught it. I know that the vaccine changes each year as it is based on what they think the variation will be like so it might not be that effective but if you have other medical conditions then I think they suggest getting it.

My work is offering free flu jabs to staff this year, as we work with sick people on a daily basis.. but to me i dont think its worth it.. ive only had flu once in my 24 years of life.. i‘ve had 500 colds but it doesnt protect you against colds... i think its only really needed for vulnerable - pregnant, elderly, children etc..

It's one of those situations when I think 'I'm tempting fate to answer' but I have had it for the last few years and never been affected by it. It doesn't stop you getting 'flu but it will prevent you suffering the worst effects from the bug. I'm a person that really hates being laid low and in bed so I will do it again this year.

The flu virus mutates and changes every year. New vaccines are made each year based on a prediction of which variant will be prevalent that year. Sometimes the prediction is wrong and the vaccination won't be effective that season, it's just the way it is sometimes. Other times the prediction is accurate and the vaccination will work. I think it's worth it for everyone to get the vaccination but more so for those with additional health issues.

I have the injection and am lucky enough not to have had any side effects and hopefully were I to catch the flu it would be far less worrying than had I not had it due to other health complications.

I got it....but I think they give it late...I already had flu before the vaccine was available and it is still not available for small kids, coming end of the month.

I had the flu jab last year, after the jab I waited in the waiting room a while just in case there were any side effects but none immediately. The next day or so my arm was really aching and I must have had an aching arm to a very low degree for about 4 months. I have an aggressive immune system that over-reacts to infections, viruses etc but then I tend to suffer for a shorter time as the immune system deals with the infection/viruses more quickly. I wouldn't have the flu jab again. Only after about 6 months did it feel like the issue had completely passed. The arm felt slightly achy and arthritic for many months. It felt like my reaction was so intense to the flu jab that it had effected my muscle or cartilage and they had slightly reduced strength.

I'd rather have the flu to be honest for a few days.

Thou I can see the benefit for certain members of society, the elderly, sick people, doctors, nurses etc.

In general I don't think the Flu Jab should be necessary for anyone who is reasonably fit and healthy. personally at the first sign of colds or flu I generally take extra vitamins to try and ward it off or shorten it's stay.

You MIGHT ward off (or shorten) a cold with extra vitamins but flu is not a cold and there's not a shred of evidence suggesting vitamins or minerals can help - too many people don't know what having real FLU is like (I had it over 60 years ago). The easiest way to describe it is: One minute you think you're dying - the next minute you're wishing you could. And in a real epidemic thousands or even millions will have their wishes granted.

I got it when I was at secondary but not anymore as I still got the flu a lot of the times. I know that the flu supposed to prevent flu but it really did not help me in any way, to be honest. I also reacted to the flu jabs as I have a fever and felt sick afterwards. I guess I fit the category of a few per cent who react to flu jabs!

It is often those who are allergic to eggs who have serious reactions to the flu jab - the vaccine is cultured in eggs.

I would definitely recommend getting the flu jab. It is so important to protect yourself and others against the flu. It doesn't work against all flus but certainly reduces your chances.
