What to Do if You Haven't Had the Flu Vaccine?
Ask a Question
So are a and e is full the ambulance bays are full the waiting rooms are full and it seems that a vast majority have flu A
Have you had your Jab yet?
If not are you going to ?
People forget too easily that to a greater or lesser extent we have been isolating (or at least very careful ) for the last 2 "flu seasons" because of COVID restrictions . Therefore we have not kept up with the normal immunity cycle against the various ever changing strains of flu that come into prominence each winter .
Had mine with my Covid booster in October as most sensible folk who were eligible did .
Yes, I had my flu jab last autumn. I was offered it when I had my last Covid inoculation but declined as I heard from neighbours having both the same day felt ill for several days so had a fortnight between mine.
Pfs Not noticing anything when you did have flu jabs is very good news, it probably meant you didn't notice you caught the flu after the jab, perhaps because the flu you might have caught wasn't able to infect you.
I've noticed that I've never noticed a bus hitting me when I've looked both ways before crossing the road. But I'm definitely not going to stop looking both ways
Pfs IMO - it should be for anyone who wants it - especially for those amongst them who might come in contact with the vulnerable. anyway it is difficult to define or predict who "the vulnerable" are. In the 1918 flu pandemic (which killed more than the first world war it began in) the most vulnerable (and mortality) age group were those aged 20-40.
My own theory, to explain that, is that older generations had built some immunity in previous epidemics. Possibly many who have the jab build some immunity for future years too.
I caught the "Asian Flu" in the 1957/58 pandemic. and I'm reasonably certain any other survivors think twice about not taking precautions.
davidstockport the Spanish flu evolved and the second wave was more deadly as it caused an overreaction of the immune system and therefore killed many more healthy people than expected. I only know as I watched a documentary on it a while back where scientists had been researching it.
No I have never had one before I have heard mixed comments about it so never bothered about it think getting the covid injections has put me off
I have not and do not plan nor want to get it.
Why? Last time I got injected with it was around 19 years ago (it was fine) and I don't have health issues, plus I'd just rather try to keep my body autonomous from drugs.
I do take Vitamin D3, and that's about it.
yes, I like to keep up with all my jabs. Had my flu jab back last year and then got covid for the first time so had to delay getting my covid booster until late December. Seeing the impact that covid and flu has had/ is having on the NHS means its a no brainer for me
I've been very unwell for a couple of years, so I booked in my Flu Jab and Pneumonia jab, even though I would have to pay, as no official diagnoses yet. (On lots of Asthma medication, but no asthma diagnosis)
My employers, even though I hadn't been able to do much work for them (It's a family run business and were kind enough to give me a 0 hour contract and to do what I can if I can at the moment!) actually pays for all employees to have a year flu jab and I didn't think I'd be included but they did
My pneumonia jab I wanted because this all started after randomly getting pneumonia, after being a fairly young and healthy person! So I wanted to avoid it again, sadly they cancelled and said they would let me know when they were back in, but they never contacted me again. Then I caught Covid and I thought I was going to end up in hospital as I could barely breathe, but was aware of spreading it.
My immune system doesn't seem to be a fan of mine at the moment, so if I can reduce symptoms, then I will.
I care for both my elderly parents so for me was a definite yes as I still suffer from long covid myself from 3years ago so makes sense to protect them more
Yes I had my Flu jab at the same time as I had my Covid booster, I tend to get quite bad chest infections s no brainer for me.
I’ve not had mine & I don’t intend to get it! I don’t judge anyone who has had it or going to get it but I personally don’t want it. I have never had it & also never had serious flu either so I don’t see why I need it!
SandraFitton Agreed.
People are free to ask whatever they want on the internet, but there are some who shame others if they've not taken this or that. And frankly, if they get annoyed that people did not comply, it's none of their business. Furthermore, it's private information that they do not need to know nor ask.
PhilipMarc couldn’t agree more! I live by “each to their own” , as long as other people are happy with what they choose to do then that’s fine! I wouldn’t judge anyone who has had it but it’s my personal choice to not have it!
its the first year i haven't had it in years and the first year i have been really poorly. so ill defo get it next year.
No and I don't want it either. I take 8000iu D3 + K2 daily and have done for years - haven't been ill for years!
I had one once was perfectly normal and then got very unwell … so no thanks …. But everyone is different
