Food Combinations

Ask a Question

Just seen a water melon (I carried a water melon...?) and enjoy them with feta balsamic and black pepper - the pretentious foodie moments are balanced out as I also like to eat nutella out the jar!)

What are your fav unusual food combinations?

There is a Norwegian brown cheese called Gudbrandsdalen, it goes really well with gherkins. It can be found in a number of specialty shops and some Waitrose stores - https://www.waitrose.com/ecom/products/gjetost-gudbrandsdalen/577198-81772-81773

My boyfriend is Norwegian and his mom sends the brown cheese over all the time. πŸ˜‚

I think it's ok in small doses, I just find it kinda sickly. It reminds me like a slightly stronger cheese spread in taste but with a weird texture.

LittleLisaMarie I really like it, when I'm in Scandinavia I always go crazy with the big blocks they have of it at the buffet breakfasts. I'm usually told the cheese slicer was invented in Norway when I'm there πŸ™‚

ACR the last one she sent was like a massive 1kg block lol.. We had to cut it up into 4 pieces and share it with my family. πŸ˜‚

She's also sent us a few of the famous cheese slicers too! 😁

Got to say, they are pretty good when it comes to cutting cheese though, wayyy more convenient than using a knife lol.

I love it there, it's a beautiful country and we usually go and visit in the summer or for christmas.

My boyfriend will be leaving me to visit his family for a couple of weeks in early August, I'm jealous that I'm not going because I'll be 8 months pregnant lol.

LittleLisaMarie Congratulations! I have a cheese slicer as well, they're great πŸ™‚ I really like it in Norway as well. The long summer nights are amazing. I'm also partial to the Cloudberry Jam πŸ˜‹

ACR thank you! 😊

I agree, the summer nights are lovely! His parents live about 30mins from Bergen and it rained A LOT while we were there. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Last summer we spent 2 weeks at his grandparents summer house up in north norway, the weather was beautiful and the sun used to set about 3 in the morning.

I don't think I've tried the cloudberry jam, I've tried some homemade nordic blueberry jam though. πŸ˜‹

That one was taken on his grandparents front garden lol.

I'll have to get my laptop out later and post a pic of the view right opposite the summer house. 😊

Most of my photos are on there because of having a new phone recently lol.

I don’t think it’s that unusual (obvs as I eat it) but people are usually horrified. I love mayonnaise on toast πŸ˜‹

My boyfriend loves butter on digestive biscuits... which is apparently a normal thing but i think its disgusting πŸ˜‚ I don’t like mixing savoury and sweet things together and I consider digestive biscuits to be sweet and butter to be savoury...

I discovered Gordons Premium Pink Gin (Raspberry, Strawberry, Redcurrant) is absolutely delicious with Ginger Beer, when we ran out of tonic recently.

Roll on the weekend!

Gin & ginger beer counts as food, right?!

I used to love cheese and jam sandwiches when I was a kid. I suppose it is no different to having cheese with a sweet chutney........hmmm caramelised onion chutney is one of my favourites.
