Foods You Struggle to Make/cook
Ask a Question
Following on from a previous thread where I admitted to being unable to make edible Yorkshire puddings. Believe it or not I can never cook a basic boiled egg, they are always either snotty or set. Do you have foods you struggle to cook?
Everything am the worst cook unless it pops in microwave am useless I even mess that up some times
Janhrrs Check your microwave thats a sure sign of a failing Magnetron!
You either need a new microwave or phone justeat!
Janhrrs If i can bring one smile to one persons face a day then its been a good day!
Its been a good day lol
Even though it was totally unintentional - ahhh right!
Actually as i always say i always speak the truth pavlova is a pain i either burn it or it goes hard i like a nice fluffy centre then goes the creamed bananas , lime juice and whipped cream - top it off with some banana chips and its rather delish - my own recipe too!
There you go i provide a laugh and a recipe!
Dont say I am not good to all and sundry!
garygemmell sounds yummy but I've attempted meringue a few times over the years and it never ends well will have to get my other half to do it
Janhrrs no hun I hold my head up high I'm no good Well cant cook well either haha fine at hard though lol x
Iv also struggled with meringues. I also struggle to do a good cheese sauce. I have only done it well a couple of times...all total flukes!
Is that Béchamel sauce with cheese ? Maybe your ratios aren't right? It needs constant stirring as well which is a bit of a pain!!
I also struggle with meringues. My mom is brilliant at them. Must be the oven
gaelle0501 Yea thats it. My son loves mac n cheese but I just could never do it. I gave up trying a while ago, he now just asks his grandad to make it for him instead.
Glitterandgold Yep, cheese sauce is another one. I normally manage to make it taste like flour sauce.
If it tastes like flour you haven't cooked the flour and butter long enough, or over done the flour, lots of people think you just need to mix them together before adding milk, nope the flour needs cooking.
lilyflower thank you, I will try again then, i know I've heated it before and then when I add the milk it goes lumpy. So fingers crossed next time
lilyflower aw thank you. I am going to be so pleased if I can finally make a decent cheese sauce and I think you need to give it another go too Glitterandgold. No more flour sauce
Yorkshire puddings for some reason.
I can basically cook anything to a pretty high standard, but can't do Yorkies.
Gonna have another go tomorrow, but I know what's going to happen
@TheChamp, it's so frustrating. You're better than me though, I gave up long ago and always buy ready made now. Pretty tasteless but not as bad as my attempts
