Dyson Are Providing Ventilators

In the News

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-52043767

The government has ordered 10,000 ventilators from Dyson to help deal with the coronavirus crisis.

I‘m glad they’re helping out. I’m sure loads of other tech firms are able to lend a hand in these times

Good PR goes a long way...might almost make one forget some of the recent bad PR (although I’m sure some won’t ever forget)

What do you think of this?

10.000 for 250.000 people? it is lucky they not going to hospital in the same time...but I think London should have as much alone or even more...

And if they ordered it now when it is going to be ready....at least Dyson is a UK company but I am sure some parts for this ventilators made in other countries... and ordering it now is a bit late...like this government is late with everything...

Yes they definitely need more. Boris is probably going to take one, and so is Prince Charles, and their staff...

hspexy just read this:

The NHS is reported to have just 8,175 ventilators - and is urgently seeking to acquire more.

The government believes up to 30,000 could be needed at the peak of the pandemic - and has placed an order for 10,000 newly-designed machines from technology firm Dyson.

Since 2002 Dyson products haven't been made in the UK - they're made in Malaysia so it should be relatively easy for them to get parts.

Lol he’s no altruist, but then there isn’t many in this world. Best he is honest and open about making the money, or once that journalist finds out, there will be outrage

Dyson should do a good job, and I'm sure this ensures future collaborations, good for the long term

Don't give Dyson too much credit. The bloke was just about ready to leave the UK after supporting Brexit. If you watch last night's news (ITV I think), the clips showed Nick Grey (Gtech inventor and CEO) in his workshop working on something. It's men like him we should be praising. Let's not forget everybody will be getting paid for their efforts too.

Yeah and him buying his Singapore apartment for 80 million quid when there are so many homeless and closing his UK factories to move them to cheaper asian countries.

Someone buying an £80,000,000 apartment and still wanting to save money - nah i cant get my head around that - i know im a tightarse but thats just greedy evil!

Sorry Dennab I support Brexit lol

We shall have to disagree on that topic!

I hope you are not a remoaner or we will have to have words!

garygemmell It's not the time for politics and I actually said elsewhere that all seems a lot less important with the current situation. We had to disagree on something though! My point was more about the lack of sticking by a decision though. He supported Brexit and then ran off when it happened. I had massive respect for the man as an inventor until he did that.

AgnesFaludi HA. "Left it inside Big Ben". To be fair, I like Hermes. Yodel are the one who've screwed me around more.

Dennab I would have to have a word with Nick Grey.

I'm absolutely sick to death with him and his adverts.

And his products are quite poor.

For those who think this is all about profit for James Dyson he is donating 5,000 of these ventilators FREE https://edition.cnn.com/2020/03/26/tech/dyson-ventilators-coronavirus/index.html

That should use up any profits for plenty more.

...and he is getting a massive amount of advertising and good publicity through media channels including those that would not even show advertisements eg. The Beeb, for FREE.

Dennab Of course he is and why shouldn't he? It appears he's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. Most rich people get the same treatment usually from people who are envious of anyone with wealth. Who if they spent more time trying to be achievers instead of moaners they might be wealthy themselves. I don't envy anyone because of their riches, I admire them more than a lot of people who do absolutely nothing - except talk about what they've supposedly done - when in actual fact they've done absolutely nothing.

davidstockport Have you done a survey to reach that conclusion? I think you'll find that quite a few rich people have a variety of reasons for people to dislike them, none of which involve jealousy. Mike Ashley anyone? If we're going to talk about time spent badly, let's start here, on a web forum. In between posting on here, I am working on code that one day could make me money. I already mentioned my problem with Dyson. He pushed the UK to leave the EU and then jumped ship when it happened.

Dennab And he pays tax in the UK - you failed to mention that. I didn't say ALL rich people I said most. Two who I haven't the least respect for are Tim Martin (Wetherspoons) and Charles Dunstone (TalkTalk) who have not got their wealth too scrupulously and probably don't get much pleasure from it. I'm happier than them I have as much as I need and a bit left over, more than enough to last me to the other end of retirement, and also the respect of everyone who I've ever done business with.

davidstockport I have always been a fan of Dyson for his rags to riches, never give up story. However, as a businessman, nope. He championed Britain's economic potential and pushed for independence from the EU. I wanted to remain but had no problem with him having his view. To then move his operations to Singapore though, that is where I lost respect. I think the phrase would be put your money where your mouth is and he did not do that. There are plenty of manufacturers based in Britain who could have taken on the task of producing those ventilators.

Dennab But if manufactured in Britain they'd probably cost four or five times the price (I don't know the exact figures) that's the problem, businesses have to make as much as they can, they're not operating as charities. That's the way business is and always has been. (and probably always will be)☺

Like I said, just good PR. In all fairness to him, he doesn’t get much negative press anyway. And there are plenty of other businessmen who are being portrayed quite poorly atm, some who may never recover
