'Gaming Disorder' is a Real Thing Now

Other

In June, 2018, the World Health Organization (WHO) formally released a diagnosis for “gaming disorder.” This marks the first time a hobby has been classified as a disease.

The pending announcement had already been controversial. The American Psychological Association’s Media Psychology and Technology division released a policy statement opposing the WHO’s decision.

Twenty eight scholars who study problematic gaming also wrote an open letter to the WHO opposing the decision. The opposition of these scholars tends to take three forms.

This is ridiculous, by this logic then anything can be a disorder. 😜 The fact that people die from playing games is irrelevant, people are responsible for themselves and if they end up in seriously bad shape or even dead then they've got no one to blame but themselves. Now, parents who let his/her kid play too much then the parent is to be blamed for being incompetent at doing his/her job (tablets/consoles aren't nannies).

Is "Painting Disorder", "Chair Disorder", "Ball Disorder", "Water Disorder", "Floor Disorder", "Sky Disorder", "Vacuum Disorder" and so on all going to be official disorders by WHO? 😅

Such a progressive world we live in!

I doubt a 'disorder' has been 'classified as a disease' by the WHO. They are different things.

More likely it's just poor sub-editing by The Hill.

This disorder, disease can be cured easily. Just need to take the kids to the middle of the forest where is no internet connection and also your phone will be down, so they will be unable to play, so they will be cured.

we now live in a blame culture, so it’s always someone or something else that’s responsible for all the bad things in life. Certainly one way to not take responsibility or be held accountable for anything

Ditto. For example, there's people who have the audacity to say McDonald's made them fat. lol

Same thing for cars, gun and etc. The host (person) had to use it in a good or bad way for the outcome to happen because a car/gun won't act on itself (unless it's a self-driven/robot/etc).

Rockman lol well McDonald's can be addictive for those who are unable to appreciate real, wholesome, nutritious food...that being said, I do love their McMuffin...with hash browns!

hspexy It can but I came to the realization that was just plastic garbage and if I'm to fill myself up with fries and meat, I'd rather grill and fry it myself. Who knows where the employees' hands were before they prepared your burger sandwich.

Rockman we often have to eat (and live) in ignorance to get by in society. Even the meat we buy isn’t always to the best standard. The best thing to do is hunt for ourselves, but we can’t do that here

hspexy About one to two months ago I saw a pig being stabbed and bleed to death, was kinda hard to watch but after all done and said he was just meat. He was chopped to pieces and we all got our portions.

I like eating meat but doing the killing isn't something I'd want to do unless absolutely necessary. Chickens take way more time and the raw smell/taste is a thing I've never gotten used to.

By the way, the pork meat with the right condiments had a delicious taste!

This is news to me. I've not headed about this. It sounds silly to me. Why is it because can't work. Then they of work getting sick pay. Then they do not go back to work because they make out that they are ill then that's other one on the dole. It's all wrong to me.
