Giving Birth at 67?

In the News

https://metro.co.uk/2019/10/29/woman-67-gives-birth-parents-claim-oldest-couple-conceive-naturally-11001492/

this has happened in China, just as well Beijing relaxed the one-child policy a few years ago...

I'm all for having kids at any age but take information on the risks of having children at that age you could be possibly putting the child health at risk

I agree. The couple have faced a lot of criticism since their story was posted, mainly that the kid will be struggling with elderly parents

If you get pregnant naturally at an older age and want a child fair enough but I am not a fan of becoming a mum over 50, I was a grandmother at 40 and it was wonderful to still be young enough to enjoy her.

This is only my personal opinion and it is quite different to how I feel about parents using medical help when they are unable to conceive.

I read about this couple but the story initially said she was 72 and dad was about 83!!!! I find that quite unnecessary and contrary to nature and I have to wonder about the doctors who make it possible. After all, there is no possible need or reason to do this.

Very true. If anything, their ages might have been exaggerated to ensure they get media attention. Not that I understand why you’d want that kind of attention, as they will be ruthless criticised for this

It states that it can't be confirmed or denied whether the baby was conceived naturally but personally, I think it's a given that they've been meddling with nature. I am sure I will be jumped on for my next comment but I think it is, fundamentally, selfish to bring a child into the world when the chances of the parents surviving, in good health, until the child reaches puberty are slim.

My mum was 40 when I was born and she was considered an old mum then! She said she found it hard as she didn't have as much energy as she would have liked to run after me! She is now 69 and said there was no way she would want to become a mum now! I'm only 28 and I'm constantly tired, so I hope the woman has a lot of support! Especially as she may not be around by the time the baby becomes a teenager.

Not fair on the child as the mother might not be around to see the child grow up.

Gosh I’m not that age yet and certainly don’t think I could cope with a new born. Let’s hope the couple have plenty of support, they’ll need it!

Indeed. I read the couple have had a kid previously, decades ago, so I’m sure they will have to pitch in
