If We Go into Lockdown?

Ask a Question

Whats everyone's employers approach to lock down?

Will you be working from home? paid full sick pay? paid ssp?

My company will be sending everyone to work from home on full pay which is quite lucky but i feel others wont be as fortunate.

My wife will just be getting the £94 a week SSP. It's going to be tough tbh because we don't have much money.

Looks like beans on toast for a month if it happens ☹️

Yeah its the ssp amount that is gonna affect people, its not enough per week for me to pay bills unless the bills got frozen or reduced

Same here. I'm already home. I might have to dig out a trench around the house and fill it with water just to put some more distance between me and society. I'm thinking along the lines of a motte and bailey castle.😉 Image

ShellyAnn Good luck with that. I am sure we are all going to be fine. I get that the BBC have to raise awareness, but today's US travel news is just going to panic people more. It's like Danny Boyle's 28 Days come true. Xx

Ceebers yes Ceebers, it is the zombie apocalypse according to the news. As far as I can tell it is really just like the flu so long as you aren't elderly with other health issues, so whilst I'm sure we will all feel rough, it shouldn't kill us.

If we go on lockdown what are people going to do about food. I mean we could probably survive on tins and stuff in the freezer but what about people that can only afford to shop week by week.

Home delivery works for us. I think it will be fine. Just be vigilant, wash hands and be sensible. Xx

Ceebers yes but if they go on lockdown and stop people working who will be there to pack and deliver your order. Surely just closing some work places but still having food shops open is pointless.

KirsteyJames I agree most can only afford week by week and just have enough left for essentials though out week my husband done an extra shift last week so we can fill the freezer this week but we were also meant to mot 2 cars this month that's why done extra I do hope they don't shut everything parents won't keep kids in well I know around by me they won't let's see what Boris says today now

I agree KirsteyJames there are many people who cannot afford to buy extra supplies and shop weekly due their finances or health issues etc. Hopefully people will look out for vulnerable neighbours who may not have family/friends nearby or have difficulties shopping online x

Ceebers And how many people are going to attempt to use home delivery?

To reassure you, Italians (who are slightly ahead of us with this) are allowed to buy food. They are just controlling how many people go in at once.

Ceebers As well as washing hands, it would be a good idea to sing "happy birthday" whilst doing so apparently. 😄 xx

That latter issue about pregnancy sounds fairly important so I would be asking the NHS on 111 about that, not random strangers on a website.

Hi ShannonMasters I can't see your comment but dependant on how many weeks you are I would suggest (if you haven't been assigned a midwife) you can call your local hospital's EPAU department and the nurses will advise you. If over 18 weeks let switchboard know and they will transfer you to the relevant department. You can also call the Maternity Helpline in your area. Take care.

Pregnancy can be a really scary time, without something like this going on and sometimes you just need some reassurance that you are doing the right thing. I was never away from my local triage and on the phone to them alot ( I had a tough pregnancy with a number of issues). I was always told that if you are concerned at all then phone your midwife or your local triage and they will give you advice and check you over, it is what they are there for. I don't know what your concern is as can't see it anymore, but if you are at all concerned about your baby, no matter how small it might seem, then speak to someone.

I doubt anyone with a mortgage and family could cope on SSP and that includes my son. So it’ll be the bank of Mum & Dad supporting them. Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that. However, my husband will be on full pay thank goodness.

I am not totally sure but thought I heard that people may be able to have mortgage holidays if they don't get full pay. Was it in the budget?

Is there a point to lock down countries in different times? or we will infect others back when they will think they clear?

I work in school transport and if the schools close , it is unlikely the local authorities will pay the companies anything, meaning we will either not be paid or alternatively face being laid off.

Is it make sense to lock down different countries in different times?

This virus will spread at least for 12 months....and will infect around 2 billion people...it is around 30% of the Earth`s population.

No one can be out of work for 12 months.

I am on Maternity so do not need to think about things till June. And I hope something will happen till that time. Hot weather may hit us and kill the virus.

I also think £94 a week is not enough to live on...would love to run an experiment and put politicians to benefit street and give them £94 a week to live on...you can not pay your bills and live on that amount, that is why people go to work even if they are sick....
