Is This a Good Deal on a Batch of Candles?
Ask a Question
75pk for £9.99 delivered? Is it a good price?
www.ebay.co.uk/itm/175312557157
I don't normally buy candles so am asking here. Also, is peach a good scent or is there a better one you'd recommend?
Thanks.
Terrible value each one costs 13.32p with a burn life of four hours that's 3.34p per hour.
I don't know why you want them but if it's because you think it could save on electricity bills you're very much mistaken. Candles might be useful in a power cut but if power is available electric lighting costs a very small fraction of even the cheapest candle.
An example: a 1 watt led bulb (about £1) will burn for about thirty hours and give about eight times as much light as a candle and the cost of electricity at the highest price (34p). will be about 1p.
Furthermore electric lighting doesn't stink, doesn't cause an outbreak of sneezing and must be thousands of times less likely to cause the house to burn down.
I must say something positive about those you ask about... they make an ideal present for someone you don't like!
davidstockport I rarely buy them so I'm not used to it. I also thought scented would be nicer.
Thanks, all.
If you’re not specifically looking for scented candles and just want some tea lights, Tesco have 100 for £4: www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/products/263115387
Poundland also sell them - 40 for £1 if they’e available at your store: www.poundland.co.uk/498168-unscented-tealights-40pk/
My local Poundland only had packs of 25 for £1, making it the same as the ones from Tesco.
If you are specifically looking for scented ones, Home Bargains have Wickford & Co Scented Tealights on sale. They have a lot more scents in store than they do online - they’re 99p for 18 in store, but they’re available in bulk (108 tea lights for £5.94, plus £3.49 delivery) online here too:
As for scent, I generally prefer non-food scents, but that’s really down to personal preference.
If you have a Wilko close they do 30 scented tea lights for £2.50 or 100 unscented for £3.75 (also on offer for 2 for £6).
Home bargains do longer burn time tea lights (8hr) A 25 packs for £2.49.
This is them:

Tea lights
I don't like tea lights much. Any reason specifically you'd like tea lights?
I am a huge candle lover and wouldn't usually get tea lights for scents, you don't get much.
Yankee tea lights never seem to burn very well and feel like a waste with me.
Partylite ones are great for decoration, as they don't have the ugly foil sides, they are clear, so you see the colour and the candle, so work well in clear type tea light holders.
I find the medium-large jars and multiple wick jars from places much better.
Candle Care
Soy are suppose to be the best for our health and sadly you get what you pay for usually with style, scent and overall experience. Although a lot of people don't realise you need to care for your candles. The wicks should be trimmed before use in most cases and put out and trimmed again if the wick head mushrooms, you can buy trimmers (see bottom of picture).
If you have a jar then an illuma lid, a topper for your jar (see picture) it can help keep the flame upright and burn evenly.
You should let a candle burn fully to the edges before extinguishing, otherwise it will tunnel and wax loads of wax at the sides, sometimes drowning itself.
Also never leave them on window sills as the temperature changes aren't great for them and in a draught can cause issues.
*The top thing in the picture is a snuffer, but they aren't necessary but good to have.
Candle Recommendations
If you want to try a good cheap candle, it isn't amazing but for £2 it is pretty great! Then Morrisons own brown mini scented candle jars are great.
If you want something different the Woodwick Trilogy ones are amazing and have a small crackle like a fire as well as good scents.
I've tried so many different candles but go back to the same brands I do ask for them as gifts and usually only get them in sales though!
My cupboard
Partylite candles are made from food-grade paraffin wax
Yankee candles are made from paraffin wax
Paddywax candles are soy based (I won this from a blog, wanted to include a soy based decent candle though)
Scent
Scent is so personal, I love fruity, fresh and florals, not a huge fan of spiced ones, so I can't say which is good and what isn't. I adore 'Tamboti Woods' scent it smells like aftershave.
I look like a seller of Partylite with what I've been posting today! Maybe I should be
I am sadly not though. I'd probably end up buying more than I'd sell.
Scenterpiece
If you are just looking for scenting without much mess, the Scenterpiece System from Yankee is amazing! You buy cups of wax, just switch them over, not sticky or messy like some other wax melt burners. You can use any wax melt once you've used the scent up and poured the old wax away once you can't smell it anymore, to save money! The Scenterpieces are around £27 new, they have timers and the cups are around £5 each, but last forever, I've rarely ever had to replace them, but I switch them out to change the scent, but so each to switch often. I have one in nearly every room (mine don't have timers on though, as I've had mine for so long! So they have improved since, less dangerous than accidentally leaving a candle lit too. I gifted one to my parents and they love theirs, they hate candles and the care of them and hate the usual wax melts.
