Gordon Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares........OMG!

Other

Never appealed before but am now hooked and binge watching....can't stop!

I know it's American restaurants but I am now even less inclined to eat out after watching this. I realise that a lot of these programmes are staged but the filth and mismanagement is appalling.

Last night a place took on a 16 yr old boy who was 'head chef' by 22 with no training in cooking or food hygiene whatsoever. Another had dripping raw meat alongside cooked meat and filthy walk in fridges with rotting veg and 8 yr old jars half used! Yuk, it seems we all take our lives in our hands as we never know what goes on behind the scenes and these places are obviously not inspected.

What do you think of this?

Not only in the States it happens on our own doorstep. I went with the ex to measure a 'popular eating establishment' to prepare plans for alterations, we'd eaten there lots of times, after he completed the plans we never went back to eat, the kitchen area was a disaster.

Oh yes, I am sure it is a world wide problem. Years ago my son accompanied me to buy a car from a restaurant owner and he took us through the kitchen, it was so bad I was retching. What gets me is that they know no shame!

Lynibis I don't know if this is an age thing, but I would have thought it was common sense to keep things clean, covered and in-date not only in an eating establishment but also at home. Plus Food Hygiene certificates are not difficult nor expensive. As you say some have no shame and don't care one dot if anyone becomes ill, they've got their money!

In one episode he actually vomited into the bin! I am surprised he tastes the food before inspecting the kitchens.

I used to watch it, it really put me off eating out! The number of "chefs" with no proper training is very high in England too, especially in pubs. So it's no wonder things like this happen.

Advice Lynibis : never watch this while eating your dinner šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

It's having that effect on me. I think all eateries should have their staff credentials on show and some sort of website you can look them up for inspection reports, which in my opinion are not done often enough.

He can be very rude when meeting the public. I waited for nearly 2 hours with my son at a book signing for him to call 'time up' when we were next in line, even cries from my son of "please sign my book, I want to be a chef and I've the same name as you" got a "no" and he walked off. How to encourage youngsters into the profession.

lilyflower oh dear that was awful of him, obviously got too big for his boots. I can't help liking this programme though, he hasn't been as bad as I thought and has hardly sworn.

I love Gordons programmes, I love how he tells them straight when their food is awful. It is quite disgusting to see the lack of hygiene in so many of the restaurants on the show, the most recent one I watched had a chef that was sneezing next to the food and not washing his hands! šŸ¤¦šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø how awful lol.

G0501 yes you are right, like you have said above it does put you off eating out - although you would hope there would be even stricter measures in place with the current situation!

One I watched yesterday the so called chef dropped chicken on the filthy floor where people walked around and many spills, then picked it up and put in pan to cook for the customer!

I really do feel that all chefs should have their credentials on display so we know they are properly trained. Too many just start cooking for strangers with no training and no idea of food hygiene. It would give a degree of confidence although I realise you would still get good and bad chefs. But honestly, you wouldn't allow an untrained 'doctor' to operate or offer you medical advice.

Those American restaurant programmes are particularly bad for staging. I'd take a lot of what you see with a pinch of salt. I saw one the other day where they had secret cameras setup to catch a manager doing wrong. It was like watching a crap old soap such as Sunset Beach.
