'Greggs to Reopen Select UK Stores as Early as next Week'
In the News
Greggs is reopening some of its bakeries amid the nationwide lockdown as early as next week (from Tuesday May 5, to be exact)... [It's] only opening 20 stores in its initial trial run, and the lot of them are in Newcastle.
The bakery chain is planning to open 700 stores across the UK from Monday June 8

I don't go into Greggs that often, but since they have been closed I've been craving one of their Nacho Chilli Cheese Bakes. I wouldn't have a problem visiting one of their stores.
Do you have an Iceland or Food Warehouse near you?
They sell the Nacho Chilli Cheese Bakes, or at least they used to.
Thanks, I can pass an Iceland store on my daily walk. I've checked their website and they do appear to have them in stock.
KFC is also planning to open a further 80 restaurants (on top of the 20 currently open) next week for home delivery - https://www.kfc.co.uk/covid-19-updates
Greggs have had a change of mind, they are going to run a trial behind closed doors https://www.itv.com/news/2020-05-01/greggs-pulls-back-on-reopening-plans-over-crowd-fears/
McDonald’s are now planning to open 15 restaurants next Wednesday (13th) for delivery only and with a reduced menu - https://metro.co.uk/2020/05/05/mcdonalds-announces-15-restaurants-reopening-delivery-next-week-12655680/
I haven’t actually missed them. Tbh I’m surprised how much I haven’t missed junk food. When the supermarkets were low on food, I started buying the veggie and vegan stuff, as no one seemed to want them, and they haven’t been too bad
I never really go to McDonald’s or KFC. The posts are more about an increasing number of businesses making the first tentative steps of getting things moving again... Apart from the first few days of the lockdown I've been fairly fortunate in my grocery shopping. I've usually been able to find everything I wanted.
ACR there are definitely loads of people who can’t wait for the shops to reopen, although I personally wouldn’t want to have to shop with such restrictions in place if it meant queuing for ages to get in, to check out, etc. When B&q reopened, I had no desire to visit it but photos of the queues outside showed otherwise
either way, I do feel sorry for the businesses that probably will never reopen after this. Only the biggest companies will survive
That’s good news that businesses are slowly starting to open again and people can start slowly getting back to work
it will be nice to see businesses reopen again, albeit in a lesser capacity. We don't want the streets to stay a ghost town
I am going to back to work on Monday! so if anyone needs there cars servicing or repairing..
It will be nice to get back to a bit of normality. Thanks for sharing
I really enjoy a good Greggs pasty or a McDonald's Cheeseburger. If they all dissappeared tomorrow though, I'd survive. This whole period has taught us what we truly value in life and junk food isn't one of those things for me personally. It'll be interesting to see how McDonald's handle the situation when they start opening for people to visit in person. Those touchscreens they phased in recently were bad enough before with traces of faeces found on at least one screen in every restaurant tested by an independent body. I am assuming they'll be either switching the things off or wiping them, a lot!
