Grocery Shopping, Clean Hands and Infection Risk

We all know we shouldn’t touch our faces with dirty hands. But you may not know that on average people touch their faces 16 times an hour. Over 250 times a day. Yikes!
So you go to the supermarket, park your car, get a sanitised trolley (if you’re lucky) and rub your hands with hand gel before you touch anything. Well done.
You start filling your trolley with goods. What you don’t know is that 30 seconds before you picked up that chicken pie someone else did, changed their mind, and put it back on the shelf. Infection Risk
You finish shopping and put all your goods on the conveyor belt. The cashier touches every single product as she scans them. Infection Risk.
You touch the payment device and accept the proferred receipt. Infection Risk.
You go to your car and touch the boot handle to open it, and put your bags in the boot, and then touch the driver door handle. Infection Risk x 2.
Now you’re in the car you rub your hands with hand gel again. Great stuff.
You get home, grab the shopping bags close the car door and the boot, touching both handles. Re-infection Risk x 2.
You then touch your front door. Infection Risk.
You unpack your bags onto the kitchen counter top. Infection Risk
You put your stuff in the fridge and cupboards. You touch the fridge & cupboard doors. Infection Risk x 2
Having unpacked your bags you wash your hands again. Well remembered.
You then open the fridge touching the handle to get some milk for a cup of tea. Ooops. Re-infection Risk.
You touch the kitchen counter top that you haven't cleaned. Infection Risk.
Your partner comes home and touches the front door that you infected...then touches the kitchen tap to wash their hands. Infection Risk.
Having washed their hands they turn off the tap re-infecting themselves, and then grab the TV remote.
And so it goes on...
Not so easy this keeping your hands clean business, is it?

Finally allowed to be in a bubble with another household I went to visit my son & his family. I needed petrol and took an anti bac wipe to hold the nozzle with. I saw a sign saying 'we clean these pump handles regularly' but immediately thought how often is regularly? I then thought that if 6 people use it between cleans and the 3rd person leaves something nasty behind, 4 5 & 6 are going to pick it up so it is useless unless they clean after every customer. The funny part of this story is that I pulled the wipe out of the packet, got out of the car and half way through filling realised I was holding the wipe in the other hand!
Oh well, I wiped both hands thoroughly and used it to open door of garage!

I keep doing daft things first thing in the morning when I'm half asleep, like putting tea tags in the coffee perculator.
We're not alone. One of my mates found himself looking for pepper in his airing cupboard.
There's something dodgy in the air...messing with our brains!
We take a bottle out with pre-mixed zoflora, a 4 pt milk bottle of water and some carex anti bacterial soap. When shopping is done we wash our hands and then squirt the car door handles and boot that we touched opening the car. Once at home wash hands again and disinfect all the food packets with another squirty bottle of pre-mixed zoflora and wash fruit and veg under the tap. Then I disinfect the door handle, the keys, phones, worktops etc. I might be going overboard, but I'm an asthmatic and when I have an asthma attack that's hard enough, so I'm not taking any chances with me or my family
That’s interesting. I am beginning to think unless you go overboard, and are very thorough, it’s a bit of a waste of time. We don’t disinfect the toilet handle after every single flush, but I guess households should. But then where do you draw the line?
PhilipMarc I did have an online shop booked and the night before I kept seeing things being swapped or no longer available. Click and collect isn't available locally so I have to travel 10+ miles for a c&c or 4 miles to my local supermarket and get everything apart from flour and icing sugar
I am not joking - I will need some serious discussions about my new OCD at the other end of this situation. We keep everyone out of the kitchen and prepare to receive deliveries. I'm not even going to explain how we tackle it but it's done with military precision and would give a Blacklist 'cleaner' a run for their money. 
Gosh, I just take in the delivery and put cold stuff in fridge/freezer as the bug doesn't live in very hot or very cold conditions. The rest I just leave on table until I can be bothered to put away as it can only live about 3 hours on packaging. I then wash my hands and go back to my TV lol.
I not gone out yet since March and won’t be doing any of the above except use hand gel after leaving store. i think if I done this I wouldn’t even go out as I forget so often i have even given up with the every hours cleaning. Was making my hands so dry
I’m so glad someone feels the same I’ve been trapped in this circle it’s impossible to break I sack out the bleach or detail spray as soon as I can any and every moment possible always spraying the handles as strategically as poss!
We get our deliveries from supermarkets and I’m please to say my husband wipes everything down as he puts it away. Trying my hardest to keep social distancing is a real struggle especially when granddaughter visits. Fortunately she’s a baby but I’d love to hold and cuddle her.
