Growing Cauliflower! HELP!
Ask a Question
I took a punt at growing cauliflower for the first time this year. It was a success!
However.... does anyone know how best to store, even to get a little bit longer out if it?
They need picked ASAP, but just wondering can I keep them a few weeks?
Blanch the florets (stick in boiling water for 2 to 3 minutes ) then freeze in a bag or tupperware type container .
Well done . I've never managed to grow them successfully . I get them to a tennis ball size head then they go to seed โน .
Me neither .... so I gave up ... I just couldn't get them to grow and look healthy and edible!
Golfforall thank you! I am very much trial and error with gardening.... just because it worked this year definitely doesn't mean it will next year, and i will have no idea what I did differently
FG280 Tried for several years , always went to seed when looking promising (Given up now ) . I'm good with Asparagus ,chillies , tomatoes ,strawberries and plums though .
Golfforall oooh I would love to try to grow asparagus! My chillies, tomatoes, carrots, French beans and courgette have done good this year. Potatoes a bit more like marbles, but think the soil was a bit overused and not enough watering during the heatwave!
Trying butternut squash for the first time too
FG280 Nothing better than eating veg you have grown yourself . Sadly I've always failed with Caulis so have to rely on bags of Morrisons frozen florets .
Process them and make cauliflower rice which will keep well in the freezer. I buy them when on offer and do it ... have done the same with broccoli too. https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/cauliflower-rice
I haven't tried growing cauliflower myself but blanch and freeze them would be my advice.
Well done!
