Harry Potter Game Anyone Playing ?

Ask a Question

Please I don't want this thread to be turned into a rant about J. K. Rowling's views.

I am a Harry Potter fan, have great memories of reading the books to my son, and we always used to go to see the films together. It was our thing, as my husband had no interest in the films, everything else he was interested in seemed to be with his Dad.

My son is a gamer and pre ordered the PC version of the game, booked leave off work to play the game and in his words " the game playing is epic" he was telling me about the various puzzles etc.

His Dad has a PlayStation & he suggested we bought the game for that platform & I must admit I am tempted.

I am in my mid 50s and have never been interested in video games, I haven't got very good eye and hand coordination and in the pass when I did try to play I gave up as I got frustrated.

So, is anyone out there playing this on a PlayStation & if so would you recommend it ? & do you think a complete novice could play.

The game looks great and fun, but I only play older ones these days. Feel kind of burned out / tired of the realistic-ish games these days.

Gaming is good for the mind and coordination and can help slow down the onset of dementia etc. Same as any mentally challenging activity, puzzles etc.

I've watched a few videos showing how the game plays on various PCs and it looks very impressive. The one thing I hate is the third person view and not sure if its got a first person view as I haven't seen any videos with that being used.

I don't find JK Rowlings views controversial myself I think they are fair and what many people in this country believe. I certainly have no prejudice against trans gender people but like the recent news story where a male rapist who raped women and now who identifies as a female was going to be sent to a Scottish female prison until the politicians stepped in, I feel uncomfortable about this and about people identifying as different to their actual physical gender in certain situations. I totally understand if you clearly have a man dressed as a woman he makes uncomfortable viewing in both a men's toilet and a women's toilet. I don't think her views are unreasonable and should be respected as her opinion. One of the weird aspects of this is religious people have been supporting her opinion despite previously being against her because her books were about dark magic.

Anyway as stated the game is licensed from her intellectual property rights but apart from that is not involved.

Personally I think there are games for everyone depending on your interests. Gaming is as diverse as movies or music. I think most people will be able to find some games they enjoy.

BonzoBanana I also agree with her stance, but I didn't want this thread being hijacked.

I really do like the sound of the game, my son is a gamer and has spent a fortune on his IT so his gamer experience will be different due to graphic card, CPU speed etc, which was why I wonder what the game was like on a PlayStation, we have an older model, so not sure if it could cope.

beccatavender If its a playstation 4 I can see it coping very well to be honest. I regularly game on a PC that isn't even as powerful as a Playstation 4. I don't really see the point of paying huge sums for a PC when in fact most of the PC games I play are old games. Modern games typically have moved more to multiplayer games which I'm personally not interested in as much. My favourite games are games like Fallout 4, Fallout 3, Half Life 1 and 2, Skyrim and many similar games and to be honest you don't need the latest PC to play those well.

The PC I'm writing this on is an Athlon 5350. In CPU terms its about 60% as powerful as the PS4 as the Athlon 5350 has 4 Jaguar cores at 2ghz and the PS4 has 8 Jaguar cores at 1.6Ghz. I'm running a legal version of Windows 11 on it which has been slightly stripped down to speed it up. Most people don't need a state of the art PC that costs £1000s.

BonzoBanana My knowledge is even worst than I thought I asked my husband what PlayStation he had to be told he has a XBox he bought it 2nd hand so I think it's an old version.

My son has spent thousands on his gaming set-up but he does spends hours playing, mostly World of Warcraft

beccatavender If its an Xbox One then its fairly similar to a PS4 in power just a little weaker for the GPU so graphics aren't quite as good. It should support a version of this Harry Potter game. If its the earlier Xbox 360 or even original Xbox they won't be supported for this game as those are obsolete formats and no longer get new games. Even fairly basic PCs can run Hogwarts Legacy though if they have enough memory and you set the graphic level and resolution to very low levels. People have been running it on fairly low end laptops and there is a version for the Switch and that is very low end hardware much weaker than my humble PC mentioned above.

This is a parody, but someone on the web is serious about it:

It made me laugh.

I will gladly buy it and play it now but I got to wait until April for either ps4 or Xbox one versions. I will be buying it and playing when it comes out.

We’ve been watching Miss Mikkaa playing this on her Twitch stream. She completed it already and is now playing it again as a different house team.

I’m no HP fan but it does look good with a good mix of fun combat play and puzzles. She’s playing it on PC. Worth checking out her stream to get a good sense of the game. Although she does this for a living so she’s really good at games!
