Let's chat about Holidays here
Where are you going and when. Any tips, advice, hotel recommendations, money exchange advice, best airport deals, or just share your holiday pics!
I used Azuma and HiFX to transfer some money to an account I have abroad and it worked out. £21 cashback per each.
Azuma didn't charge an extra fee so the £21 was basically free, whereas on HiFX you get £21 too but it's within a minimum of £50 transfer and on top of that, a fee of £9. £59 (fee inc.) for £38 seems like a good cashback deal.
Other than these two, there isn't much else (well, a few though not really that great of a bargain) on TCB right now to transfer money.
Skyscanner.net and KAYAK.co.uk are two staples for me. I always use them to determine the cheapest flight. Then, when I think I've got a bargain I quickly check to see if LatestDeals.co.uk has a deal (often GraceN has posted a few!).
In May I'm going to Paris on the Eurostar from a deal someone posted here. £26 each way.
I usually enjoy an AirBnB more than a hotel. For example, in June some friends and I are renting a villa in Tuscany, Italy as it works out at about £20 per night each, and we get the whole place with a swimming pool.
I'd love to try one of these £5 Ryanair flights. Just pack my bags and go... Hmmm.
Tom Sweet deal you got, Tom.
Hopefully by May things will be better in France/Paris.
Tom Do you still plan on going to Paris this month? I'm asking because it's a chaos out there and not really a place for holidays right now.
Just watch this video below of the riots that happened recently:
Hope you stay safe.
our last holiday was fri-mon caravan for 6 £142 pound including travel did the poundland reciet spit offer at park resorts
Wow that is a bargain!! I love seaside caravan holidays! I've been to park resorts, went last Aug.. the weather was on our side, blue sea, warm breeze, quiet beach... was awesome!
Just booked this villa in Tuscany, Italy for a 4-day weekend. Got it through AirBnB, sharing amongst 3 friends. Ended up being £143. Got the whole house to ourselves
I'm liking your style. Italy is my favourite country. I did an 8 day tour last Autumn. Nothing bargain about it really but met lots of fab people and had lots of fun in Pisa, Lucca, Rapallo, Milan and Venice. Not sure where we are heading this year yet...
Went to Tunisia january flying with lufthansa, no deal on flight however got a £120 refund when i got home as i complained. Lufthansa delt with complaint quickly and i was very happy with the outcome. Will be going back as soon as looking for that flight deal
This is by far my favourite subject . This is such a great chat nemosays and would be happy to post some tips too . Thanks for the tag Tom!
This year I have been to Valencia, Spain in Jan. Cardigan weather and not bad at the price of £120 flights and hotel - 3 nights. Booked Ryan Air flights and a 4* hotel in the city centre. Love a good RyanAir sale and you can always go on Booking.com to compare hotels.
I went to Basel, Switzerland and this was a Christmas present which my boyfriend had got a good bargain for from Ryanair and hotel from Booking.com. I think we paid no more than £180 for flights and hotel for the both of us. Be warned though... Switzerland is such a pricey place to visit!
I'm heading to Tenerife next weekend with some girlfriends. We booked a lush apartment end of last year and it worked out to be £100 each for the week, which is pretty neat as its right in the middle of everything. Check out pics here . The flights were slightly more expensive as 1) the bank holiday weekend is always kind of pricey, 2) we needed extra luggage - yes you know how much stuff we need for just one week . I actually looked to see if there were any discount codes for Thomson flights available on Google and saw one for free luggage - but it wasn't available for the dates that I needed. But they exist!!
My most anticipated holiday this year is 10 nights in Japan. To cut the long story short... My friend earns points on his Amex card whenever he books travel. He usually travels with Air France or Emirates and then he gets extra points for booking with them... They sent him some offers for return flights at just £170 each. He went on to book the two hotels for us also on points for just £330. 5 nights in Okinawa, 5 nights in Tokyo, breakfast, lunch and transfers included. £500 for 2 people is not bad at all!
So my main tips would be;
- always sign up for loyalty programmes with airlines and hotels as this can be very rewarding. Not many low cost airlines do this, but be sure to take advantage on long haul flights! e.g You can collect point on Emirates and use them with EasyJet
- ask and you shall receive policy - when booking hotels, don't forget to mention any special occasion or ask for a complimentary upgrade. If you ask really nicely and they have availability, they are usually happy to upgrade you. The hotels don't lose out on anything by doing this. It works on flight upgrades too - I am yet to be brave and try this theory out!
- when you have booked a hotel or flights, check within the next 24hrs to see if they are being offered elsewhere for cheaper. Companies are usually happy to honor the price match
- always try something different when it comes to booking accommodation as you learn new tricks of booking cheaper accommodation
- check for discount codes for hotels and flights when booking travel
Favourite hotels so far;
- Work trip - Foxhill Manor - on the pricey side. Perfect for celebrating anniversaries, hen nights. Lovely the unlimited champagne! They do have a budget version - which is amazing when you can find a deal and its called The Fish Hotel. My boyfriend and I love heading to the Cotswold on a nice break away from London, so this is perfect for us!
- Trip with the girlfriends - Memmo Baleeira, Sagres - This is an artsy hotel located in the Algarve. My friends and I booked a 2 bedroomed apartment and paid about £40 each for 3 nights. We went end of March, the weather was perfect and it wasn't overpopulated with tourists. The buffet breakfast was included and incredible! Flights were about £60 each
- Trip with the girlfriends - Brody House, Budapest - Loveeeed Budapest! This hotel was very different but so cool at the same time! I think we paid £40 each for 3 nights. Good location and breakfast was amazing!
I'm a travel junkie who used to work in travel so would be happy to post any new deals on this site that I find
Wow tenerife £100? That's insane. I wondered whether you worked at a Travel Centre with all the flight deals you post
So far This year, I've been to Bali and Sri Lanka - all flights via skyscanner, and all hotels via hotels.com or booking.com, using Trivago to get the cheapest deals, and tripadvisor to check out reviews before booking
flights were £380 pp for Bali in Feb and £340 for Sri Lanka in March
with hotels, you can get safe and comfy accommodation for £10-20 per room per day
I recommend a visit to either country, although Sri Lanka wins hands down as you get to snorkel with giant sea turtles
I got bitten by one of these when I went snorkelling in Mexico! Thank God it was a baby one, I would hate to imagine how much damage a big one would have done lol
GraceN lol yes the baby ones are nippy, as they eat meat when they're small. Once they get bigger, they're just vegetarian, and very gentle
so jealous you got to see them in Mexico - we never saw them there, even though we did all the snorkelling and sea walking to see the stingrays. Have been twice and can't wait to go back :-)
hspexy The ironic thing is I was at the end of the line and everyone was gathering around it. As soon as I spotted it, i thought, "ok, im good - going back to the boat to drink some more!". As soon as I turned - NIP! I guess they have a no drinking and swimming rule over there lol
You should go back! I'll probably bump into you there, i loved it!!!
I love the culture in Madrid where if you buy a drink, like a glass of wine for 1Euro, you get loads of free tapas.
We went to Greek Peak Ski resort in America (not sure exactly where) and it was amazing!!! Sooooo worth it, you can hire loads of equipment, they do really cheap kids lessons for snowboarding and skiing, plus the cafe and pub are really tasty!!
I've never been to Paris before so looking forward to this. Managed to get tickets on the Eurostar for £26 (search LD - it's posted), and then sharing this AirBnB
Any recommendations of things to do and see other than the Eiffel Tower?
I've Just been away for 5 days in a gorgeous caravan with my wee girl and all for £43!!! I USED the daily mail vouchers and would highly recommend looking at this!!!
Craig Tara holiday park, it's a Haven resort in Ayr, Scotland. The caravan was fab, with a private decking area. We have been a few times and it's always been great!
