Home Bargains Closes Store for Boxing Day
In the News
I personally think this is fab because can spend more time with family i hope others stores follow i remember growing up and stores would be closed on boxing day on a sunday and bank holiday only major retailers would open
I was just about to post about this.
I think it's a great idea, and shows that they value their staff enough to allow them to spend quality time with those they want to spend time with over Christmas.
Contrast this to Next, who for some unknown reason felt the need to open most of their stores at 6am on Boxing Day last year. Ensuring their shop staff could not really have much to drink on Christmas day, nor stay up particularly late.
Well done Home Bargains, for putting people before profit.
Great idea! I have previously worked in retail where one year I finished at 9pm Christmas Eve & was back to work for 7am Boxing Day. Was heartbreaking not spending time with my kids & family just so that some people could buy a reduced loaf of bread! X
I think it's a brilliant idea and I really hope other retailers follow suit and staff deserve the day of and time to spend with family. It's so important.
Knowing how crazy home bargains can be on a normal day, it is the decent thing to do - allow the staff to rest another day before they have to deal with the madness on the 27th
Don't really want to be negative about this but I guess the logic behind it has more to do with profitability rather than staff interests. I guess that last years boxing day figures were poor so they have pulled the plug on opening this year .
My partner works at Lidl and also has the day off Boxing Day, has done the past three years. not sure why it’s been made news! so they should get the day off, I know it’s all about money money money but it’s nice that these companies are considering their staff for once.
Although I love this store. Definitely a good call. I worked in retail previously for14+ years and always missed out on family gatherings over the festivities. My firm now shuts over Christmas so I get to spend time with my kids and people I rare get to see because its one time of year we are all available.
Dont blame them for being shut on boxing day ive worked in sales before on boxing day and all we seem to get is dogs abuse for the shops being shut for 1 whole day out of the year as people clearly cant go one day without spending their money.
Excellent news, boxing day used to be about family time not Boxing Day sales, let’s hope more shops follow suit.
My shop will always be open Boxing Day we are a shop and pharmacy and people will always forget to organise their medication in time and run out at Christmas.. we are mobbed on Christmas Eve and then mobbed on Boxing Day - both days we are open bank holiday hours and people always kick off about that, expecting us to open late on Christmas Eve yes because we love having one day off for Christmas and dont have homes to go to
I like this idea. I have a few friends who work in retail who would love for their employers to do the same and be able to spend 2 days running at home with the family
I think it's brilliant and that all stores should have to even chemist's sarahgreen15. Im afraid if people can't take responsibility for organising their own medication that's down to them and that's talking as someone who does forget it sometimes and has to take 13 tablets a day. But why should other people have to carry your responsibility. I'm sure when I was a child the chemist's were shut too.
I'm pleased it's closed just hope that staff get paid for the time. I'd been shopping on Boxing Day before and it's dead! Might as well close
