Home Remedies

Ask a Question

Do any of you follow or use home remedies for health/beauty/pain relief reasons?

I am always intrigued to see what remedies people have come up with and if they work.

I don’t really have any to share other than one my hairdresser once’s recommended which was to use laundry fabric conditioner as a deep condition for your hair once every 3-4 months!

What do you think of this?

I like using essential oils and tea tree and rosemary in water and sprayed on hair is especially good for getting rid of headlice. Better than using harsh, nasty chemicals.

Lynibis oooh yes they sound like they would be much better for your scalp compared to lice sprays! Good idea 🙂 I heard apple cider vinegar is good at getting rid of lice and fleas but wouldn’t fancy smelling of that!! Lol

AliceBell64468 Yes you are right as I have often heard of vinegar being used, apple cider vinegar is probably preferable though.

My sister in law doesn’t use fabric conditioner any more but pours a little distilled white vinegar in the machine. I still use a washing powder with fabric conditioner.

We always have a couple of Aloe Vera plants in the house. One long leaf cut laterally through to expose the gel like innards of the leaf can sooth burns, irritations, hyperpigmentation, itchy heads caused by dandruff and wounds. It also has natural anti-bacterial qualities. I have tried to whizz it in a blender for a face pack but I ended up too weak with laughter as the slippery mass went everywhere but my face.

angemski great plant to have access to for all that you have stated! I haven’t had the treat of using direct from the plant but I have used Forever Living Aloe Vera Jelly and it works miracles! 🤗 It’s great to use on animals when they get cuts, it helped seal my cats face when he was attacked we managed to avoid a trip to the vets from using tea tree oil and the aloe jelly, it’s great! X

Garlic is a good quick treatment for UTIs. I used to get them quite often then once tried this when I didn't want to wait for a doctors appointment. I got some that come in a jar with olives and ate about 5 cloves in one go and it worked!

Omg that’s a lot of garlic lol! At least it did the job though, I know how painful they can be, I have normally just tried the regular cranberry juice myth which has never worked for me! I might give this a go in the future if needed! Thanks x

AliceBell64468 it isn't too bad if you think of them like eating olives. And it was better than what my husband thought I was going to do with them when I said they were for treating a UTI!

I like home remedies...using bath salts..they nice and relaxing.

Also when I had a muscle tear in my leg Arnica cream helped a lot, it worked better than medical alternatives.

I drink herbal teas and use herbal plants to get well.

I would not put a laundry fabric conditioner on my hair which has chemicals in...maybe some natural brands.

But if u make your own at home, than it is fully natural and u can use it on lots of things.

My granny used to say beer is great for hair and it has benefits too, but after use it smells like beer all around.

Also lemon juice has an effect on blonde hair. Makes it more blonde.

Aww thanks for sharing your lovely home remedies. I would agree that there are a lot of natural things that you can use and make which are often better than the medical or medicinal alternative.

The beer one is an interesting one and I might try that out, I’m always looking for things to try on my hair and improve its condition x
