Struggling With Homeschooling
Ask a Question
So its starts again Monday not enjoying it one bit neither are kids.
any ideas tips to make it more enjoyable one has learnings needs so this routine is hard on her I have emailed teacher to say that separate work should be given to the children in the class with needs and not capable of the work set.
Can I ask what learning needs she has? If you would rather not say I completely understand, I was just thinking that as a teacher if I knew her learning needs I could give you some strategies/techniques to help you both.
But some techniques that might help are;
chunck the information or instructions so it is in small manageable chunks, bulletpoints work well
set an amount of time to do the task and have a visible timer, then if the task isn't finished in this time talk about why it wasn't finished eg not enough time, task too hard etc
Use simple thumbs up/thumbs down during activities to find out if they are ok with the work or if they need extra help
Ask them what would help them to understand the work/complete it properly
Take breaks! Home schooling is not the same as a school day. So if they are struggling and getting stressed take some time out! Go play in the garden, watch an episode of their favourite tv show, have a water balloon fight, do some baking, put on some music and dance/sing, get them to help make lunch, all of these are educational in their own way.
Ann1984 the above techniques should help and if she is still struggling then maybe see if you can get work from the year group below her current one. Differentiated work should have been given but there could be a number of reasons why it wasn't. Hopefully you hear from her teacher and they can help with simpler work.
Also digital learning might be good for her as it gives tasks based on ability.
