House in Noisy Location - next to Dual Carriageway
Ask a Question
Just read an article about a couple who bought a house that backs onto a busy dual carriageway. They then complained it was too noisy.
What’s the worst surprise you’ve encountered when buying/renting your home?
Buying a house is probably the biggest purchase we will ever make, so you have to do your homework. This couple obviously didn’t and now expect the council to bale them out.
I think the woman is stupid she's knew what she was buying and now she doesn't like it oh well move then
She clearly states in the article that she knew it was a busy road, so surely she knew it would be noisy! I wouldn't buy a house next to a busy main road, mainly due to our dog and son, but if I did I would know that it was going to be noisy in advance!
TheChimp she was more wrapped up about the house and wasn’t paying attention to her surroundings. Her mind blanked the noise I feel. Then when she settled in then relaxing in her garden then thought... I can hear a car.
We rented for six months, a 3 bedroom house with no front garden, we soon came to realise that the road outside was used as a short cut for large lorries, the bed used to shake with the vibrations at 6 am waking us up.
It was something you would have known until you lived there.
beccatavender I remember as a kid I lived by the railway line. At night they normally sent the trains with tankers down. That made the house shake. We had a traffic light outside to. In the garden I would wave at the driver to get them to toot the horn.
I used to live next to a busy road. You get used to the noise after awhile. I was more concerned with air pollution levels.
We always do our homework thoroughly before buying a property, we didn't buy one because it has a caravan park next door which, we thought, could have been sold and turned into 'anything else'.
Sadly I can believe that people do complain about things that they must have known would/could cause a problem. People often move to the country and then complain that it is dark (unlit - no street lights) they don't like the fact that people (in tractors) are up early making a noise, that cattle f*rt and do what nature intended etc....
My mate lived next to one. You got used to the noise. You couldn’t really hear anything in the house. I stayed there loads as a kid. It’s not as bad as you think. However Them buying a house then saying it’s noisy makes me wonder why they bought the house next to a dual carriage way? Then complain. Doesn’t sound like they did their home work. Not sure what they was expecting.
In a few years it will be quieter with more electric cars.
