Blinds or Curtains?

I live on the main road of a busy street. Hear multiple noisy cars with loud music and police sirens going off. I recently just got fitted new triple glazing windows with the hope it will reduce noise. Its made a diffrence. But now i am just debating weather or not i should now go for blinds or for curtains. It's for the attic windows. The style of the windows are GEORGIAN BARS
I’m assuming the windows are small as it’s an attic room. I think I would choose blackout blinds keeping it neat and light during daytme.
Tiz Yes two or three layers of thick curtains could help . Cheap and nasty ones may look pretty but they won't help with noise or light . As a rule of thumb if they block the light they will help with the noise .
Golfforall thank you i like the rule of thumb you have mentioned. I will keep that advice in mind 
I read some years ago that different thicknesses of glass in the construction of windows helps noise reduction (a thick and thin one is better than two thick ones different thicknesses stop different sound frequencies). I have to disagree regarding the light blocking qualities determining sound insulation. Only the thickness or texture determines sound insulation. In other words a light coloured curtain, which will not stop as much light will block exactly the same amount of sound as a black curtain of the same material which will have better light blocking qualities.
Thick curtains will usually be better than blinds at reducing noise.
I think it's a matter of preference and what you need them for, personally I always go for blackout curtains or blinds as otherwise I can't sleep.
I think i might just keep my options open and stick with thick curtains. Because i live on the main road i will have to get black out curtains but i think something thick should help reduce noise too. Thank you guys for your input !
Does the noise bother you when you’re trying to sleep? If so, Have you tried a white noise machine to help with the noise? I’ve recently got new neighbours who are loud and the dogs are always barking at night. The white noise machine cancels out a lot of noise. I hope this helps you somehow.
LeanneWard wow have you got a picture of this machine ? Sounds like a very good idea. They have something similar at my place of work it does cut down sound quite a bit. Sounds kind of like a fan i think. Thoight it was only available at commercial level. Thank you
Tiz if you search white noise machine on Amazon loads of them will come up. Yeah you can have it on a setting to sound like a fan, rain, waves ect. You can get them quite cheap. The one I have as sold out, so I can’t send a link. X
Busy the sound of it , I personally would go for wooden fitted blinds, these would look very nice.
Why not both? We have black out blinds and black out curtains. Really helpful if you work nights.
Since moving we decided not to put up any curtains but do have blackout blinds. We think they are great as you don't get arachnids making a home in blinds but you do in curtains....
I actually was considering blinds and curtains together but was considering the cost of it all together. I have never thought of that to be honest. That is something definitely to consider
It must be awful living on such a noisy street. The only time my street is noisy is when my neighbours throw a party. Usually my street is silent and I can sleep in if I want to. I have blinds and curtains, the guy who lives across from me is a peeping tom
I've always preferred just having curtains in the bedrooms, main rooms and just a roller blind in the bathroom and kitchen, love letting in natural light, safer with 2 kids and a very nosey cat too, i don't think blinds would last long in my house
