Iceland Tells NHS Workers if You Touch It, You Buy It

In the News

this has obviously upset people, and Iceland have since apologised

https://metro.co.uk/2020/04/16/iceland-tells-nhs-workers-touch-buy-despite-staff-knowing-wash-hands-better-12565193/

but in fairness I would say all people need to limit touching in general

I try to avoid Iceland like the plague anyway but this kind of disrespect enforces that. As you say, everybody should get out of the habit. I can't blame people for briefly forgetting but saw one teenage lad pick up about six loaves of bread in M&S a few weeks back while he and his mum chose which one to buy.

yuck! I dislike it when others touch food items and put them back, especially pastries and bakery items. If food handlers don't use gloves, I tend not to buy from them

ptenn00 I can't imagine you're very keen on the self-service bakery section (I'm not)!

Crazy times. There is some element of this that made me smile then nod - the palaver I go through when food is delivered or post drops through the letterbox is mind blowing. It is said that there is a percentage of OCD in all of us but we give it different descriptions:- particular, fastidious, scrupulous etc but I am sure the population will come out of this with more than a few new persistent traits.

It’s funny because iceland is one of the supermarkets where you really don’t need to touch anything unless you want it - the glass is usually clear enough to see the products in the freezers lol

I totally agree if you touch it buy it. What is the need to touch if not buying. We should only be buying necessities, which also means goods we usually buy. So no need to pick up and examine and then put back.

What about to get something from the back? I always look at the back of the shelf to get the item with the longest date.

They shouldn't have singled out NHS staff, but I do agree customers shouldn't be touching products unless they buying them 😷
