The Isle of Wight - So Many Shops Closed - Whats Happening?
Ask a Question
I am holiday in the Isle of Wight, I appreciate it is low season but after driving around yesterday it is so sad to see so many businesses closed and many have completely gone. Any locals out they who can explain what is happening to this beautiful island.
The cost of getting across the Solent by ferry or Hovercraft deters tourists, especially for short trips. Plus the spending habits of the islanders has changed.
I went to the Isle of Wight 3 years ago. There was nothing to see. No where to go. Shops were closed. The only ones that were open were charity shops and we have plenty of those where I live. I was very disappointed. It really was not how I was expecting it to be.
it is sad, my mum used to always take me as a child and i loved it. but i done it with my kids and so much has dwindled
went last year for a week it was longest week of my life so bored hired a house in ventnor photos looked beautiful when we arrived damp cold dirty and cost just short 2 grand but beautiful views
Haven't been for a few years but always found plenty to do on The Isle of Wight, Black Gang Chine, The Needles, Sandown beach & Pier, The gardens in Ventnour, Hover craft ride to Portsmouth, open top bus ride. lots of little villages to explore and obvious the main town of Newport . We always stayed at a Park resorts site so also had the entertainment and swimming pool etc onsite , and have always gone in the main season .
