I could not do it either. I would feel to guilty. Its stealing your right.

I am ignorant of those tills and always go to a cashier. I have seen folk putting items straight into their bags after scanning them with those gun things they now all seem to have. How do they work? Surely if stuff is going straight in the bag the shopper can slip several items in without scanning?

I know technology is not my forte but cannot see how that works without lots of shoplifting going on which means higher prices for all of us. Surely it is more cost effective to keep staff at tills?

I love using the self scan guns and packing straight into my shopping bags. It means no emptying your shopping trolley at checkout then putting everything into your bags and rushing as the checkout staff swipe the next item. When Waitrose first introduced it they would often rescan your whole load to make sure you were doing right and no stealing. I’m pleased to report my total spend was the same as the cashiers. I remember reading that Tesco noticed they were selling more carrots than they had in store because people were self scanning more expensive items as carrots

Never stolen anything in my life and that is stealing. High Street shops are closing down every day and it's acts like this that play a part in that. Think the long queues are more to do with the machines being rubbish, it tells you to weigh your bags at the start and press done, you do so and instantly you have an unexpected item in the bagging area, it's the same with heavy items, cat litter for instance, my local Tesco self-checkouts expects it to weigh less than the 10kg and constantly says unexpected item and then at the other end of the scale you have light items that make the machine have a meltdown because the weight hasn't registered so it tells you to bag the item constantly as you begin throwing it as hard as you can in the bagging area to try and get it recognised. Or maybe that's just me

Use these tills all the time and scan the items I have properly see no reason not to .

I did read somewhere that the biggest issue on these tills is people scanning weigh out items incorrectly, but whether that is deliberate or genuine mistakes as finding the right item can be confusing I'm not sure. Even experienced cashiers mis-scan sometimes so it's bound to happen Apparently thou the cost savings in staffing more than makes up for any small loses by people mis-scanning .

I use the hand held scanners in Tesco practically every time I shop there. I can honestly say hand on heart iv never even been tempted to steal a thing or scan anything lighter. I would feel far too guilty & ashamed. Me & my friend once left a bar after one too many cocktails years ago & later realised we'd forgotton to pay for our food. We felt awful about it so we went back the following day together apologized & payed. They were very grateful for our honesty. It's people livelihoods at the end of the day!

I'd be too worried about being caught. And at self checkout, realistically you're probably not spending much anyway.

No couldnt use em alone anyway,as it always goes wrong! I always need staff help.

Would never even think about stealing...not even a fleeting thought...I would never be able to live with the guilt and shame that I had stolen.

Not for me I just wouldn’t do this it is stealing I avoid the guns altogether as it puts people out of a job

i use self checkout mostly and I like it quite a few times people left there change but I inform store worker straight away and he or she took it now every time they say hello to me when I go that store and I feel proud for myself

Nope. Also, the only time I get kinda lost is which onion label I'm supposed to print, otherwise they're fine.

No, it's not something I would do, but I see people doing questionable things fairly frequently. The imagine the most common item that people steal is the 10p carrier bag

Other than bags I can’t see how people get away with stealing because their is a weight register which will flag up if something isn’t right, but I guess some people have a way round it. I think they are handy to use when you have a basket of items, I don’t think it is practical when someone rolls up with a full trolley of stuff to scan themselves when it would be a lot quicker going to a normal till.

I think they should be fast tills, but people experiment on them... So they slow...

There’s cameras on each self serve till in our Asda store. Although the checkout operator oversee it and may not notice. camera monitors might. Then your face would be logged.

Don’t know why people do it? Unless ....your desperate
