Do Kids Play with Marbles Anymore?

Ask a Question

I remember playing with marbles over drains in the playground as a kid, and I loved them. I think I still have my old marbles somewhere. Not sure if the kids these days even know what marbles are?

Oh used to love playing marbles in primary school and had quite a collection, of prettys , steelys and of course dobbers. Not sure children bother anymore or whether they are even allowed them in school now, I believe Conkers have been banned in many schools , and that was another great playtime pass time when I was at school.

Lol it’s so silly to ban conkers, as they’re so easy to come by during the autumn period. Definitely health and safety gone mad!

I guess lots of folk would be worried having them around as a choking hazard. I never heard of anyone doing so and we all played with them when we were kids. I guess I would worry with toddlers around but bought some for grandson when he was old enough to know better than put them in his mouth.

Lol so many things these days have safety disclaimers, you’d think people in the past were dying left right and centre from them. Always good to be safe, but it’s so silly to wrap kids in cotton wool these days

You cant play that in many schools now too. Shame!

Johnny lol I’ve never played that, but I looked it up, so it’s some kind of tag game? If so, then it‘s definitely it allowed in most schools these days. Very sad times

I used to love playing marbles. We used to get them as Christmas presents too!! I use to get them for my children as stocking fillers for Christmas but they never once played with them so I stopped buying 😔

Oh no that’s a shame. I guess there’s so many technologically advanced things available, marbles don’t get a look in

as far as i recall my daughter briefly played with them at about age 5 but never at school so possibly they are banned at school, that was nearly 5 years ago and i dont recall seeing any kidsaround us playing with marbles like we used to as kids, too many other high tech distractions these days 😞

yes tech definitely has taken over, particularly the smart tech that everyone is into and completely engrossed with. Such a shame

It could become popular again if someone releases a School Yard Marbles computer game version for the Xbox or PS4 😉 There have been quite a few 'marble' computer games already, but they don't reflect the original physical game 🔮

They definitely do! I think it may be less common but from what I have seen, it's still very popular in the classrooms. I think as they don't see them as often, once they have learnt how to use them, they enjoy the change from electronics!

My son used to play marbles through an app on his phone 🤣 wasnt interested in the real thing though. We bought him some one xmas and the adults had more fun playing with them than the kids did 🙊

CathSho13 lol definitely not as good as the real thing then. I used to love my collection of marbles - just holding them and marvelling at their patterns was a past time on its own (simpler times!)
