Lidl May Be Running out of Stock

Was informed by a member of staff that my local Lidl will have to reduce their hours from tomorrow as they don’t have enough stock due to restrictions from the EU, as most of their suppliers have faced border control issues, as the countries they get things from are on lockdown
I suppose it makes sense for the likes of Lidl and Aldi, as most of their products are shipped over. Same goes for a lot of produce in the supermarkets...although I did see a lot of products that people seem to be ignoring/disregarding from their stockpile, such as weight watcher dinners and fresh fruit
Not entirely sure why the ice cream sections are empty, as I doubt people have that much freezer space...and again, the only items left are the frozen yoghurt, diet ice cream items
oh well, I guess it was bound to happen, as it was perhaps what may have started to happen with the Brexit
I don't believe most of Aldi's products are shipping from mainland Europe at all. They have a buying department in the UK. I suspect it's the same for Lidl. They will of course buy certain products abroad such as fruit that is not grown in the UK but that would affect all supermarkets.
Buying department means they procure the items, but that can be sourced from anywhere. Just like buying departments for fashion - hardly any items are manufactured or produced in the uk, as we don’t have the factories or manpower. But I do believe the main supermarkets buy from Uk farmers, so they will have stock, but usually at higher prices. The post by BonzoBanana below reflects how it is
I'm sure at least twenty people who've read this will be down at the supermarket panicking again tomorrow morning though. The irony of you mentioning stockpiling is the post itself may well encourage it!
Yes most likely. They’ve said that all announcements to ‘keep calm’ and not to panic buy just makes people do the opposite. It’s like when I was told as a student not to think of a pink elephant - unfortunately you will think of a pink elephant!
A lot more of Lidl and Aldi stock comes from abroad than typical UK supermarkets so they would be effected more. Also while many products are sourced from outside the EU and UK many at Aldi and Lidl are packaged in mainland Europe compared to packaged in the UK for UK supermarkets. I think Waitrose and Jacks has the highest ratio of UK sourced products and Lidl and Aldi are right at the bottom. I'm sure there is no one stupid enough to believe that buying from Lidl and Aldi isn't damaging to the UK economy and hence our huge trade deficit and debts but many of us are trying to save money in the short-term. Each one of us has about £60,000 of government debt on our shoulders which will increase a fair bit because of Covid-19 hence why the £ has dropped many financial institutions are worried about our ability to pay back that debt. We are leaving the EU with 1.8 trillion or more of public sector debt. Enjoy the moment because we will become much poorer in the future as a nation and many services like the NHS will be reduced and many will die prematurely because of it sadly.
My recent visit to Lidl's had most items in stock but the weekly offers were gone pretty much and staple stuff was gone. I couldn't buy normal onions there, coffee or the 1kg pack of chicken legs I was planning to buy but most of the other empty sections didn't effect my shop. Yeovil has 2 Lidls but I went to the slightly smaller closer Lidl which I suspect may have been better stocked than the larger store but I could be wrong.
