Local Greengrocers?
Other
Do you use yours? I have to admit I hadn't until recently with all that is going on in the world I thought it would be
A - better to support local
B - less people than in the supermarket
So a couple of days ago before lockdown I walked there and got some various fruit and veg and when I got the raspberries out the next day they were mouldy inside! All had to be thrown in the bin and the strawberries weren't looking too great either. It does put me off going back.
Maybe I should give them another chance then, see how it goes! I know berries don't last long anyway but I did expect longer than the next day!
Got a few bits from my local greengrocer but not 'soft fruit', all items were fine - could do with some more ...
I'm really surprised by that! Our one was empty when I went made me feel awful I'd never been and supported them. I've decided I shall give them another chance and pop in saturday and get some more bits as we're running low
Lots of local businesses near me are doing an incredible job of supporting the area - with deliveries, etc. In turn they are being supported by people that may never have considered them previously. I'm sure that when we return to some sort of normality many will return to buying all their shopping from a supermarket, but I'd like to think that some will do more shopping with local businesses that are vital to the community.
On the point of mouldy berries this may be more of a problem with a smaller greengrocer. Smaller turnover, and less prepackaged items with best before dates. However I have often bought fruit and veg from a supermarket that was well within the recommended date and still way past it's best. So I think you can just be unlucky.
Sometimes, but normally only if I can't find what I want at the supermarket. Can be useful for weird stuff sometimes!
So many companies on FB being supported locally here for delivering boxes of fruit and veg. I think it's a good idea but quite expensive
I've seen a lot of those too and tbh they are ridiculously priced but given the situation people will pay it!
