Lockdown Mental Health
Ask a Question
How are people coping with this 3rd Lockdown?
I find it hard sometimes to stay positive and upbeat as I know there is a vaccine but the light at the end of the tunnel does not seem to be getting closer.
The vaccine is not a cure all , it will aleviate any symptoms if you get the virus but it doesn't make you immune , even after having it restrictions will still be in place .
Once all the people who want the vaccine have had the vaccine then the restrictions should be stopped.
Leeann Yeah I read that and yeah your right its not a cure but it help build up protection from the virus. So the light at the end of the tunnel is everyone who wants a vaccine has had a vaccine and we can have some sort of life.
Leeann Yeah I know covid wont disappear and it will be like the flu. But once everyone who wants a vaccine has had one then things have to change. We cant just keep going like this or mental health will spiral out of control.
I think yesterdays record number of Covid deaths is a stark reminder that this whole situation is far from over.
I would not be at all surprised if things still aren't back to normal next Christmas.
Whenever people bring up mental health issues I am afraid I do switch off because no matter how anyone feels there is ALWAYS someone worse off than yourself.
There is a lot to be said for 'pulling yourself together' and not wallowing. I have every sympathy for those with mental illness like bipolar, schizophrenia etc but I think as a people we have become far too sensitive, attention seeking, and expect others to be responsible for our own state of mind and well being.
Act happy and think of others first and you will find your own troubles dissolving. There will always be depression and I do not belittle it, but sometimes we are our own worst enemy.
Getsome as I said in last sentence I do not belittle real mental health problems and know they can lead to suicide and other problems. What I don't agree with is feeling a bit down one day because it's been a bad day and calling it a mental issue. We all have down days. I am getting on, have health problems, have not seen a soul since boxing day and often have a little cry, especially when watching emotional things on tv. But I do not have mental issues because next day I bounce back and realise how lucky I am.
Lynibis I also don't agree with people using mental health as an excuse but I also don't agree with people who don't think its a bigger problem than it is and wont accept it. Depression and Anxiety can lead to suicide and has done with so many. People wonder why we have mental health issues when people go around calling people snowflakes.
Lynibis Yes there is trouble identifying when people are taking the **** but too many people wont accept mental health how big mental health and cause other people to not speak out by calling them fake or telling them to just shake it off and carry on. A lot of mental health issues have been cause belittling people for having a differences.
There's also the problem of the delay between the first and second jabs , medical consensus in other countries is 3 months is to great a gap , it should be 3 weeks
Look at the number of new daily infections (positive tests) to get a better idea of the progress of COVID . These are down to below 40000 day and falling . Deaths follow catching the virus by 3 to 4 weeks so are a lagging indicator and are expected to peak in the next few days ( 3 or 4 weeks after Xmas/New Year ! ).
Unfortunately we are not yet sure about the efficacy of the vaccine or how long its protection will last but there are tens of thousands of very clever scientists worldwide working on it and improving it daily .
I have absolute confidence in the scientists and that I will be back in my local pub's beer garden by Easter at the latest. By then all of our elderly and vulnerable will be vaccinated so the risk of the NHS being swamped by seriously ill people should be greatly reduced.
You really think that everyone will be back into pubs by Easter? I cant see them getting everyone a vaccine who wants it by then. They are hoping to have offered a vaccine to everyone by September and I'm not hopeful with that.
Getsome I really do , although at some future date vaccination passports may be required this can't happen until the summer when most will have had the jab .
In the meantime restrictions will be eased (we can't keep lockdown for more than a couple of months ) .
The virus isn't going away , people will still get ill , but with the most vulnerable and elderly protected by the vaccine (those most likely to get seriously ill) and the rest of us by common sense ? the NHS will be able to cope (Not the case now sadly).
Golfforall I would like to agree but I cant see it happening that quick. I hope it does but too many people need vaccines and the vaccination rate has been quite slow.
Getsome All the over 70s and extremely vulnerable (15 million ) should have it by 15th Feb . Over 5 million done up till yesterday , so well ahead of schedule .
By the end of March these people should hopefully not be going to hospital for Covid reasons which will take the pressure off the NHS.
I say Pubs as an example of the hospitality industry which will have to open as that is over 20% of the UK economy and nearly 25% of all employment .
Golfforall I still don't think that 60-65 million people will be vaccinated or offered vaccination by Easter.
Getsome No they won't . That isn't the plan , the plan is to have the most vulnerable (those liable to become seriously ill ) protected by Easter . Younger people have a far lesser risk of becoming seriously ill (ie require hospital treatment ) so once the elderly and vulnerable are protected the NHS will be able to deal with the much lower rate of hospitalisations amongst younger adults .
That's the theory . So I predict the lockdown will start easing at the beginning of March and we'll be down to tier2 by the end of March - beginning of April .
Golfforall The plan should be get the vaccines out day and night 24/7 and as quickly a possible. I just cant see any light until next year as I'm low down the queue and with the possibility of vaccine passports makes it even longer before I can travel.
Getsome That is the plan they're on it already (24/7 vaccinations now being rolled out across the UK) . They say they aim to get every adult vaccinated by the Autumn but it shouldn't take that long .
At the current rate (2 million per week ) it will take till about August to vaccinate all adults , they say they are ramping up to over 3 million a weeks so that should mean all adults will be offered it by June.
On travel , that could be more difficult . We are way ahead of other countries (apart from Israel ) with vaccinations . Whilst travel will come back this summer I'm not sure I'd like to be laying on a beach in Spain or Greece wearing a mask.
Golfforall I can see some travel coming back in the summer just hope that majority of the country have the opportunity through being vaccinated but I don't hold out much hope of government achieving target based off previous lies and failure to hit target.
The vaccinations won't make a difference , covid is still going to be around and even with the vax people can still get it and pass it on , with a 3 month gap between the 2 jabs it still means months before everyone ( who trusts it ) will vaccinated , vaccinated not immunised
If you remember at the begining of the 1st lockdown quite a few " experts " said this will be the New normal , we have to asjust ( either that or it's all a ploy by the NWO to mass collect DNA for genetic re -alignment ?? )
Adjust to what? The current situation? If so this is how we are living now? Locked down, limited shops open, no travelling, no socialising, businesses going bust daily.
mrgoggll Adjust to current situation? That's never going to happen and we ain't ever gonna stay in this situation for the rest of our lives. If things didn't change we will be in a civil war by next year.
Leeann We cant have this situation for another year, things have to improve for the sake of peoples mental health.
Leeann Mental health will probably be acknowledged by mop head when its too late.
Leeann Mental health issues were here before the pandemic and the NHS is struggling to staff having to isolate and the reduced funding over the past x amount of years. Unfortunately mental health wont get proper acknowledgment because too many people think its a hoax and its not a physical symptom.
Getsome I'm just gonna be honest here I've have depression and anxiety I've been on medication for it for years but as I'm pregnant I can't take them anymore will harm my baby and since I've been off them I've never feel better so I hope it continues and I won't need to go bk on them
Leeann I hope you never need to go back too them and fantastic that you don't need them. I hope more people don't have to go on medication but unfortunately its on the rise and the 3rd lockdown is only helping with the rise.
Leeann I know its not just down to the lockdown but the lockdown is helping with rise. I know I could go to the only coffee shop open near me or 3 or 4 shops open to be but there only so many times you can go without it being repetitive.
If you remember at the begining of the 1st lockdown quite a few " experts " said this will be the New normal , we have to adjust ( either that or it's all a ploy by the NWO to mass collect DNA for genetic re -alignment ?? )
TheChimp I totally agree, far too many people think its just something like a bad day but its bigger than that and this lockdown is making it worse for people.
