Losing a Pet

Other

I had to make the headest decision yesterday and let my beloved shuz tuz go over the rainbow 🌈 Bridge she was 14 years old and had been on pain medication for her back legs but the last few days she wasn't able to walk

My other half says don't dwell on it she is pain free now, which I know I did the right thing but my heart is breaking, I could of got her cremated which I wanted to do but my mum passed on the 1st December and I need to find the money for her funeral first

Here's hoping next year is a better year

Last year Tibbie, my parent's cat who was 14, died on 21st dec. Christmas got cancelled, so I know how you feel. Losing a pet is horrible but it is worst at christmas. Sorrry about your mum as well. Best wishes x

I am so sorry that you have lost 2 loved ones so close together. It is never easy saying goodbye to a pet, they are a big part of your life. You are allowed to dwell on it as you are allowed to grieve about it.

Sending you a virtual hug x

I am so sorry for your losses. It is so hard. I lost my dad on 21st December last year, devastating and then my dog became ill and died in March. Losing a much loved pet is devastating too so sending you lots of hugs and best wishes to get through the next few weeks. X

A few months back my mother's cat 'Cleo' was put to sleep she had a horrible beginning to her life and I think had a good 13 years in a good home but about 3 years of bad treatment before that. She was always a very timid and frightened cat but gradually got to trust my mother and me when I was there over those years. She loved her food and a comfortable bed and perhaps in the last 8 years of her life appreciated any attention she got even if she still looked a bit uncertain at times and would lose confidence after a while and go off. At the end her health was very poor and having her put down was definitely the right decision but still a little character that you expect to see about has disappeared. My mother had another cat in the past called 'Casper' and he lived to about 26 years and seemed to enjoy every day and was pretty much fearless he certainly had a great life and was very lucky.

I've only lost one cat in my own home called Engelbert I still think about him, he was a great character who really seemed to be enjoying life and happy as cats go but somehow he got poisoned with anti-freeze and had to be put down. I never knew the full story of how that happened and could have been malicious. Sadly he didn't get many years at all.

I love having cats about, always had them as a child and would never want to be without them about, even though they can be annoying at times.

I haven't had much luck this year 4 months ago I had to have my cat pebbles put to sleep she was 18 she was the cat who always lived upstairs with the kids but once my youngest had her son a couple of years ago (they live at home) pebbles started to come down stairs and even venture into the garden

Furbabies give you unconditional love but break your heart when they leave

My little Layla ( King Charle) passed just over a year ago. She had a heart murmur And arthritis and her legs were also failin but we said our goodbyes before she got to the not walkbig stage. Although the pain is easier now I still miss her so much. We have had other deaths in the family to deal with too so 2019 has by far been the worst. Nothing anyone can say will help and sometimes we say the wrong things. Hope you feel better soon and things feel easier as time passes x

Sorry to hear you had to lose your pet. I would get another asap, as won't fill her place but it will fill a gap.

You could ask for your dog to be cremated or buried with your mum you know as a dying wish?

IT has been done before.

we had to make the hardest decision for our beloved labrador Sami this April, he was 13 and my loyal companion for all his life, we had him cremated and his urn is at my side as i type this, my heart is still broken even now 8 months later, he was given to me as a christmas present so i am not looking forward to this first christmas without him

I did want to have ruby cremated and keep her ashes as my first dog died age 15 on 10th December 2009 and I had her cremated, but after my mum died we found out she had cancelled her funeral plan, it was when the dementia started she cancelled it so every penny we all have has to go to her funeral

So sorry to hear that ☹️ I lost my cat a few years ago who was my first pet, she was only 3 years old and was run over. I was heartbroken. My older dog is now 11, and it terrifies me that she is getting older. I don’t have kids so my dogs are my children, losing my cat was like losing my child and I know I will be beyond devastated when I lose either of my dogs. I had my cat cremated and kept her ashes but I don’t know what I will do with my dogs ashes..

I really feel for you, to lose your mum and pet in such a short time, my deepest condolences to you.

I have lost 3 cats over the past 12 months, 2 sisters, 14 and 15 years old and my 27 year old, normally by now I would have had another rescue come my way, but I can't go through it anymore and when the 5 I have at home now have crossed the bridge, that's it. I rescue cats and 10 years ago lost 4 in 3 weeks so know a bit of the pain you are feeling and I wish I could say something to make it better for you. They are such a big part of the family and always have a special place in our hearts and whilst yes, your partner is correct in her being pain free, it doesn't make the grieving process easier. The hardest part of having pets is knowing when the time is right, no matter how heartbreaking it is.

I wish you all the best for the New Year and hope you can look back fondly and smile

More recently, after these posts,my daughter had to say goodbye to her lovely doggy,14 yrs old and although we were always a 'cat family' my daughters dog was the first dog amongst our family, and id been her 'gran' longer than my daughters children,as they had the doggy a few years before they had the kids- so we all miss her and i sent for a special christmas tree decoration for my daughter with her dogs name on.she really loved it and it will be a comemoration every year now in future.

That is terrible i feel for ya - losing yer mum is the worst thing in life and nothing anyone can say will make it better but time does ease the pain but it will never take it away contrary to popular misconception - to lose yer wee dog too that is double nastiness!

I am sending you some good vibes via the Cosmic Ordering service - think good , do good and it will come back to you twice over!

And just remember one day you will be standing with mum, dad, grandma and gramps on the celestial beach over the other side of the river of life so be not afraid, be brave and remember you are your mum and dads creation so look after what they have given you and celebrate your life for you are part of them and carry their lives onward with you wherever you are!

Emily Dean’s ‘Everybody Died, So I Got a Dog’ is a really interesting and comforting read, as is her podcast ‘Walking the Dog’ which addresses the topic of loss so well. I’m so sorry for what you are going through x
