Yes. Too many beautiful souls loosing their life thanks to reality shows like this. We should have more shows focusing on mental health and show the public they are not alone and its ok not to be ok.
I have loved previous series but just hadn't got round to it this time. I love it because it's awful car crash TV and easy to watch. The behaviour of some people is awful and it's easy to see how they end up getting trashed on social media because of it - so much gas-lighting. But it almost needs to happen so people can see that it's not a acceptable way to treat people.
I was thinking that all these suicides linked to it are awful though and it's a doomed show.
I think it should be cancelled. It's either ruining people's lives or it's attracting the kind of people who are already fragile and can't cope with the social media backlash.
I have been in a similar situation - dipping in and out of LI occasionally but everyone seems to be forgetting that this poor woman's demise was caused by an incident that the press hounded her for and the CPS's tenacious pursual of her, when the boyfriend didn't even want to press charges. I'm inclined to blame them rather than a programme.
Getsome I agree, it seems to breed an unstable and isolating mindset. It doesn't help that so many people hide behind social media to say some truly disgusting things. I wish the producers had invested more in counciling for the contestants. I also wish they had set some boundaries for controlling behaviours and not let things escalate to the point where they become hated.
angemski The press is to blame but the show isn't innocent and i believe will have contributed to it somehow.
angemski I agree with this about Caroline Flak. That's a separate set of issues than those from the show itself.

angemski Don't blame the CPS if they don't prosecute when the victim doesn't insist they do, it wouldn't be very fair to murder victims. or even other domestic abuse victims too frightened of repercussions if they don't attempt to drop charges. It isn't up to victims to drop charges, the police charge them and once they're charged it isn't up to the victim - who in many cases could be threatened or bribed - if they could "drop charges".
Domestic abuse is a CRIME the victim has no say in the matter if there is sufficient evidence that they were assaulted.
davidstockport Odd but I didn't get this notification of a reply...... I would have answered sooner. I completely agree that the ruling to protect the victims when they are intimidated, and in no position to make an informed decision, is paramount. I agree 100% My main point was that this was something completely separate from the tv programme and I just can't see understand why people think it is. There are many programmes that incite more creepy and aggressive feelings to those who are susceptible. Whatever the ruling it was pretty clear she was judged long before her demise and none of the organisations that had a duty of care recognised her distress.
angemski I also in another answer, over half an hour before your reply, (it's lower down) said I didn't think her suicide had anything to do with Love Island - but would in no way put any blame onto the CPS's pursuit of her prosecution, from what I've read if she'd pleaded guilty and accepted a probable slap on the wrist (at magistrates court) instead of a "not guilty" plea it would never have gone to trial. She was probably badly advised (she did apparently admit the assault).
Mitigation (if there is any) can be accepted by magistrates, even after a guilty plea the magistrates need not impose any penalty.
My last appearance in court (1983) I pleaded GUILTY to speeding (I was speeding) then asked that as there was a sign missing and I had no way of knowing the speed limit could it be accepted in mitigation. I wasn't fined anything with no penalty points, even the two police officers who had had to attend the court were surprised, especially as they couldn't say anything after a guilty plea.

I don’t watch many reality shows but there does seem to be a big problem with setting people up as bad guys and then not offering support after the show ended. I think on that basis and reading about the number of suicides linked to this one show then I’d probably say yes to it being cancelled
Yeah im with you on that, they might not be directly to blame for the recent one but there is too many suicide links to the show
I don't like/watch Love Island, so wouldn't really notice if the show was cancelled. However, the death of Caroline Flack shouldn't be used as a factor to stop making the program. She was a presenter who had worked in TV for over a decade before the start of Love Island. Instead, her suicide has been linked to the pressures of facing assault/domestic abuse charges that aren't related to the show.
Most, if not all, of the contestants that go on Love Island are looking for fame, money and some kind of celebrity career. Given the show started in 2015 they should know by now what to expect when they sign up to appear.
3 suicides linked to the show?( The latter being more about domestic abuse) but Jeremy Kyle was going for like 20 years and 1 suicide ( that we know about) linked to the show and its shut down. I
Getsome I don't think you can say Caroline Flack's was linked to the show. But I would still say 3 as there was also Sophie Gradon's boyfriend a couple of weeks after her.
Sophie Gradon took her own life two years after being on the show. A few months before her death in 2018 she talked about being the victim of intense trolling and cyberbulling - which has been linked to other suicides. While, the death of Mike Thalassitis has been linked to his mounting debts and bereavement after the death of his gran, not Love Island. Caroline Flack's suicide isn't related to her involvement with Love Island. Whereas there is more of a direct link with the guest that took his own life after recording an episode of the Jeremy Kyle show.
ACR How do you actually know that the 3 (not CF) are not heavily linked with love island?
If it was cancelled because of suicides how many other TV shows would need to be cancelled? It is probably unknown how many youngsters (non celebrities) have taken their own lives after humiliation caused by such shows as X factor or Britain's Got Talent.
I didn't even know who CF was but from what I gather her suicide was in no way connected with this show, I did once watch a bit of Love Island and not saying it shouldn't be cancelled - but not because of this,

I think LI makes so many people dissatisfied with their appearance leading to insecurities and plastic surgery.
I like love island. Its not the shows fault that people have commited suicide, its because the show is so popular the media and people online writing horrible comments that have affected them. But if they axed jeremy kyle after one suicide then yes it should be cancelled.
There is a bit going on in the way it is edited to make things more dramatic and outrageous. It's no secret that they are told what to say to make the situations more dramatic too. That combined with the egos of the contestants makes the viewers feel like they want to bring them down a peg or 2.
ITV make a lot of money out of this program. The nature of why it's so popular is also why it gets so much media attention so they do have an obligation to take some responsibility when it gets too much for the contestants. Whether it's through making sure they get lots of mental health support or cancelling it entirely.

yes 100% 2 people now and that 2 to many! i hope the media are investigated for this and quit being so slanderous. i dont read most news due to this
