Man Eats His Late Mum's 21-Year-Old Festive Pies Each Christmas, Would You ?
Ask a Question
So this mans mum died in 2002 and he found a batch of 43 mince pies in her freezer
In honour of her passing he decided to defrost and eat one mince pie per year
He carried out the ritual again this year , and even though the pastry tasted ok, the mince tasted a little strange
I love mince pies but i dont think i would take a chance on eating one over 20 years old, would you ?

If you'll eat 'mice' pies T then a stale mince once shouldn't be nearly so bad lol.Just teasing.I'm not gone on mince pies anyway but I have endured some strange things down the years.
No way I love mince pies no matter how much I love my mum and her mince pies I would never eat them 21 years after her passing
kate1310 I think the problem is not knowing how long his mum had left the mince pies before freezing them
If she had made them 2 weeks before for example and froze them , they might have been on the verge of going off , and as they were home made they would not have had any preservatives to prolong their life as factory produced ones do
So they could have been close to being putrid before freezing, then add 20 years and more onto their age, it is a risky gamble
Personally I wouldn't as I wouldn't want to risk food poisoning, but if that how he wants to remember his Mum, each to their own.
jam45 According to the article J she used to bake hundreds at christmas and give them away to establishments etc
It was a batch he found in the bottom of her freezer a few years ago and he and family started eating them
The family went off the idea but he decided to carry on the tradition eating one per year
Who knows how the story got into the papers , maybe a family member told them and they contacted him to tell the story
Its a nice gesture and honour to his mum, but i am not sure it is something i could do
