Mark Zuckerberg Lost £4.4 Billion in Yesterday's Facebook Outage

In the News

Facebook was down from 4:30 pm to 10pm last night, as a result Facebook shares went down by 5%

His net worth is estimated at $121.6 billion, I find these figures are mind boggling...

and he has slipped down to No 5 in the World's Richest Men List

I can't wrap my mind around that large a figure. I wonder how much he would have lost if had carried on for a week ?

beccatavender These values are based on the value of the shares he owned, not actual real estate and personal property. So technically, he didn't miss a thing. When you have a share, you only lose or profit by selling it.

Do you think he will even notice? Who could spend that much money?

It's a great blow to all those who use Facebook though - I can smugly say I wasn't affected because I don't use it 😁

I only use it for competitions T and the occasional birthday wish to family and friends

Its use is mainly to gather information about you for facebook analysts

telmel That's precisely why I have never signed up. I don't want people looking at 'me and my readily available details'.

As previously stated it was because Facebook group shares fell by 5% (even BEFORE the outage ) . Part of a widespread drop in US tech shares . Google , Apple , Microsoft also suffered falls .

Also not helped by Frances Haugen's testimony to the US Senate laying bare the "dirty tricks " and algorithms used by the company to "hook" users of the platform . https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-58805965

While most rational intelligent folks use these platforms (Facebook , WhatsApp , Instagram ) for convenience too many allow their lives , opinions and self worth to be dominated by them (surprise , surprise ! ) 🙄.

It's not surprising that this figure is so high, when you think about how many people are on Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp.

It must've been very embarrassing for him that he had to announce on "rival" website Twitter.

Unfortunately, a lot of people rely on these services to keep in touch with people - let's home we don't experience an outage like that again for a long time 📱

We could set up a collection for him. Let him know we have all been there.

Its so misleading when they quote how much someone looses at times like this. Its only on paper and means nothing other than the company as a whole is worth more or less. MZs personal worth is all tied up in his company. The only way he can realise the true values is to sell to company - then he could indeed make the vast sums quoted. Personally if I was him thats pretty much what I would do now!

Someone in the transport sector found themselves being described as a millionaire as the company he was setting up had great potential and investors were looking to put some serious money into his operation. Covid put a stop to all of it and his company ended up being wound up. He may he been a millionaire on paper but never saw anything like that in his bank account!

I can't get my head around this much money. It seems crazy , I think £ 100 is a lot of money but I suppose it's all relevant. To were you live and what you do for a living.

I think there is more to this outage than what Facebook say after the whistle blower but I suppose we wont find out with these big corporate companies

Shame he didn't get that in a tax bill. The world will carry on though and he is not going to lose much sleep.
