Where Would You Get Married?

Ask a Question

I don't like the idea of getting married here in the UK, (when half my family is from Kenya that other half from Seychelles.!)

Kenya is not far from the Seychelles, so Mombasa which is on the side of Kenya is where the beaches are that connect with the Seychelles.

So I've got 2great choices! 😊

Mombasa or the Seychelles

Aaahhhhh

Not sure where I would get married but either of the 2 is good for me.

At the end of the day, it depends on where my man to be... where he comes from & what he would like as well, because we can go to the Seychelles/Kenya any time.

Don't have to get married there... There are lots of countries/Island that are as gorgeous as the Seychelles & Mombasa.

Good morning. 🙂

I'd like to have a traditional wedding in a church or maybe on the beach in a country which is hot and sunny. ☀️

I got married in a small private chapel in the town where I grew up and had the reception in the hotel next door.

It was more important to me that I got married and my guests had a good day than where I got married. I would have been happy getting married in the local registry office, as long as I was married that was all that mattered to me.

Been married 5 years next week.

Definitely Italy - although I never would because I know that 3/4 of our guests wouldn’t attend, but it would be the dream 😍 italian food, the weather, the views / scenery..

First time was a big church, family and friends. Never again such a waste of money, yes we paid for it. Just get married quietly.

I don't mind getting married quitely but my wedding wouldn't be such a huge event (don't like the idea)

I would save alot of money getting married back home mind you.

I would get a free cake, my uncle makes cakes & I would give family abit of cash to cook simple food.

I would only invite family..

There are about 3-4churches I get married in & wouldn't pay nothing because of my family.

Might have to pay for the hall but would get a big discount.

(Or if lucky get it for free)

Or use a family members house...

My wedding dress would be gorgeous but cheap.

(I got a bridesmaid's dress for £18 on ebay)

Only thing that would cost me & my man alot of money is the ticket flight which is £500-£600 (during December/January & July it goes upto £1000, so I don't go during those months!)

I'm not fussed about getting married. Iv been with the OH for 20 years, raised our 2 sons & have a mortgage together. That feels like good enough commitment to me. If we do end up marrying it will likely just be a very small quiet affair with close family only, followed by a meal afterwards. I did want to get married a few years ago but after my parents passed away it just didn't feel as important anymore. My OH feels the same way too.

Unless you have someone else footing the bill, somewhere cheap which is awkward for many people to get to. Maybe outer Mongolia or something. You hear of people splashing their savings and ramping up a huge amount of debt for a wedding and that money would be better spent towards a mortgage payment or setting up your home. I'm not religious though so I guess I don't get big weddings partly because of that. As for the honeymoon, Venice or somewhere in Italy like Rome.

Yeah when I hear that people ended up in dept after a wedding, I think to myself why didn't they wait abit longer to save more.

Or at least use less cash without using all their money up.

(I mean it's not a must to get wedding dress or suit that's costing them £2000)

Or they could do something different...

NicoleBradburn Just say this online which is an older image. The average wedding cost is now over £16k. That could be a deposit on a flat in many areas or even a small terraced house. Maybe now it would be even more money as extra costs dealing with covid safety precautions. Just a huge amount of money for a lot of people. Average wage I think is something like £22-23k so you are talking about the net salary after tax for about a year. I think the divorce rate is approaching 50% and the younger the person the more likely the divorce will happen sooner. The younger you are typically means the greatest hit to your income paying for a wedding and the increased level of debt. I suppose you could have an amazing wedding on debt before you have any major assets and then declare bankruptcy, wipe the slate clean at the expense of others and then build up a mortgage deposit from there.

It's about knowing & learning to control your money, if your parents have been teaching you since a very young age, trust me it will never leave you.

Not everyone has a family overseas that will able to help them spend alot less for their wedding.

So I am just one of the lucky ones, but I would advise people to marry for the right reasons & don't do things that will affect your bank account in the end.

Bournemouth is very nice and there is probably a registry office nearby but I guess that wasn't the type of wedding you were thinking of.

BonzoBanana well I would refer a church, as I am a Christian... but if it happens in a registry office, then let it be so, just not in the UK... 😊
