I didn’t know that retailers would still do this. I recall when Next used to have their sales at 5am, but I don’t see those happening anymore in my area
Is it necessary to have sales at this time?
Some people really enjoy it and make it a bit of a tradition. I think it's good fun if you love bargain hunting, which I'm assuming most people on this site do.
lol that’s true, although Matalan isn’t the most generous when it comes to sales, so not a retailer I would bother with until they do final clearance
I think it's a slap in the face for their workers.
If you are unlucky enough to be working there on Boxong Day, you probably have to be there by 3.30am, which means on Christmas Day you are going to have to have an early night, and not have too much to drink.
Contrast this with shops like Aldi and Home Bargains, who are shut on Boxing Day to give their staff some quality time over Christmas with friends or family.
Yes, it’s definitely a strange move for Matalan, giving that we are living in a more sensitive environment these days
I think it is mercenary and unnecessary. Companies should treat staff with some respect and empathy. They will already have worked hard in the run up to Christmas. Many stores don’t allow leave, or even days off during December.
