Maybe Late But I've Just Seen That Another Magazine Has Given Up!

Ask a Question

Image

'Simply You' Magazine posted this and say at this time there are no plans to bring it back and that the July issue is the last!

'With a heavy heart, we have to tell you that the decision has been made to pause print of Simply You after this issue, due to the challenges of recent times.'

I don't read it myself but did used to enter the competitions and find it quite sad that another magazine has gone, do you think more will follow suit now as there is so much online anyway, will printed magazines go the same way as hand written letters?

It's under the Bauer umbrella and in May the said The publishing house is considering the future of the following brands: Mother & Baby, Golf World, Practical Photography, Sea Angler, Planet Rock, Q, Car Mechanics, Modern Classics, Simply You and Your Horse. I know the last issue of Planet Rock is 31 July. Hope I get a refund for my subscription.

lilyflowerAha! 🕵️ That's why they have been running the click and win comps down on some then, I did wonder, they are such a big concern Bauer as well aren't they!

I wanted to cancel 2 magazines myself the year before last, I just wasn't having the time to read them anymore and they were just piling up, one I rang up, they couldn't have been nicer, anything to help, done in record time, the other was Great Magazines, and the time I had with them you wouldn't believe, talk about awkward, they WOULD NOT cancel the subscription, threatened me all sorts if I went to the Bank to cancel the Direct Debit, I had to have it for another year, I would never recommend them to anyone so I really hope it wasn't them!! x

Magazines are those things I either really want to read but always be busy or i will read a whole lot in the first day .. I was contemplating buying simply you just yesterday at Morrisons but chose woman's own.. I think it's a fab magazine.. it's sad to hear of this.

I used to be a huge magazine buyer often buying 3 or 4 expensive magazines a month but nowadays its extremely rare I would buy a magazine unless its in a charity shop or something. I have done free or cheap short trials but usually cancel them before I'm charged the full price. My nas drive is full of pdf magazines I intend to read and rarely read any of them. I guess the sooner paper based magazines are finished the better. They are very environmentally damaging. The only newspapers I get are the free ones if I spend over £10 in waitrose too.

I do agree with what you're saying BonzoBanana but some people really like to read a real paper copy, the same as books, so it will be really sad if they are done away with completely! x

Caz2 It's much better if you can pass them on, it seems such a waste to throw them away after one read doesn't it?! x

JoTarpley I can certainly see the appeal of them but they will become commercially uneconomic when there are too few people buying them. There is regulation in the press which you don't get on the internet. When you see people that don't accept Covid 19 exists and they blame it on 5G you know people are taking their news from fairly strange sources. I may not always like the side opinion of the press but you don't get the outright nonsense in papers like you do on the internet. I'm quite a nostalgic person and don't like change that much.

Confirmation arrived this morning with the last issue of Planet Rock. They are offering a 6 month free subscription to another mag or a refund for unused portion of subscription via the 'refund form' which doesn't exist.
