Do Members Get the "Deals Site" They Deserve ?

Latest Deals

In my view latest Deals has become all about earning points 😒. As such we have lost the plot!

Points for "Likes" have rightly been discontinued - but members can still like a great deal .

I posted a TCB deal yesterday for a "Free £2 " with a £10 purchase . Was effectively a free £2.20 on a £10 Supermarket giftcard .

Free money , but "liked" only 4 times and never made the "popular page " so swiftly dropped off the new page never to be seen again or noticed by many members who perhaps would have welcomed £2 + off their next shop ?.

I hope many saw it and got the "free £2" but "forgot" to like it so it would come to the attention of fellow members .

Remember a "Like" may no longer gain you 5 points (whoopee !) but it will still promote deals to be noticed by fellow members .

Are we a site where members look after each other or not ? Or do folks simply come here to post duff deals and post inane Chat topics solely for points ?

telmel You don't seem to worry too much about stronger "language" than that when one of your cronies uses it - directly aimed at another member - with no humour intended. It seems acceptable here... it still remains. (after over 12 hours).

Double standards I'd reckon.😀

When I use the word crony (perfectly acceptable and valid word) it is never in a derogatory way. I have already explained elsewhere that the words crone and crony are not connected. It's amazing how many people think they are.

Don't give them any ideas RegCom. I'm now almost expecting a "Points for Chat v No points for Chat". topic anyday now.😀

(I suppose it could be reported as a near duplicate of this topic though😀)

Hey everyone!

Thanks all for your feedback and thoughts!

Re: likes

We’re actively exploring ways to encourage members to like the deals that they…. like! 😄 We’ve recently added in the “Newest” deals halfway down the App’s “Popular” page to encourage members to look at the newest stuff and hopefully give it a like (and thereby get it onto the popular page). We’re planning on adding similar functionality to the website soon. Loads of deals on LD get lots of clicks but not so many likes. We obviously want to improve this if we can!

We’re also reviewing the algorithm that decides what appears on the homepage to see if we can tweak that and get more of the good deals on to the “Popular” page.

I can pre-emptively hear the gasps before I mention this next point, but we’re exploring the idea of re-introducing points for likes 😲 Before you get out the pitch forks - we’re just in the ideas stage at the moment but we’re thinking about trying a tinder style swipe left/swipe right for deals. We’ll reward members for taking the time to “rate” deals but the points will be given whether or not you like a post - just as long as you make an active decision on it. This should hopefully remove the fear of posts having likes just for points, encourage more likes and reward members for their time. At the moment, it seems to at least (theoretically) tick a lot of boxes!

We’re hoping if our combined efforts can encourage more members to take the time to "like" a post we’ll have a more mixed homepage too. As Aztec pointed out, the homepage often has lots of the LD team’s deals on. Members of the team who share deals often add them to our social media or suggest them for our newsletter or broadcast. This then leads to them getting more likes. Any deal, irrelevant of who it was shared by, is capable of getting on the homepage. It just requires enough other members to give it a like and I’m keen to make that happen more often! ❤️

Re: chat and points

I know some members feel very passionately about this. We’ve already made several changes on this front (that, whilst not perfect, I believe have improved things?). That said, there’s still scope to make further improvements. However, often it isn’t as straightforward as you may first think 🙈 For example, removing points for likes definitely removed the issue of likes being given without merit. And that’s a good thing that we support. However, it has also (sadly) stopped some members who were liking things genuinely and properly from continuing to like things. And that’s unfortunate - as it leads to situations such as Golfforall’s post not getting the likes it may have deserved. It can be a tricky balancing act that we’re always trying to get just right!

Rest assured, even if I don’t always reply, I am always reading and thinking about feedback and taking it back to the team and discussing potential changes, solutions or improvements. My notepad of ideas and list of to-do's is overflowing 😅

Thanks for sharing your thoughts with members . Unfortunately you didn't address the obvious misuse of "Chat" . The same small number of members monopolise the forum by each and every day posting and replying to each others topics to maximise points gathering .

It cannot have escaped the team's notice that 4 or 5 members post over 50% of Chats and replies ! An amazing strike rate from a membership of over 2 million 😮.

I'm sure that outside those 4 or 5 members you will find little support for "Points for Chat" . We all appreciate the facility and do not need to be rewarded for doing what comes naturally to us .

In reality an important (to the poster) enquiry or request to the membership via chat may well be rapidly pushed out of visibility due to the "In the news" topics posted many times each day by the same members .

Please remove points for chat , we enjoy chatting but don't need an incentive .

Mr D has joined in as per usual to assist you in your efforts

Can you not channel your energies into something more useful, maybe help a charity , visit an elderly neighbour during the pandemic instead of this constant complaining about chat

You started this post under the guise of another subject to carry on the verbal onslaught , which is a little underhand

Please try to behave like an adult , its not the end of the world if we as members carry on posting, we live in a democracy after all

Notice i have not used any bad language or made any adverse remarks in the making of this reply , so you cannot have the post removed

May I suggest that if you do reinstate points for liking deals, you restrict the ability to like deals to those who have actually read the deal, the current method of liking a deal just from the bare essentials does make it too easy for people to like deals they've not even read properly. Not saying it would stop the "five a dayers for points"- but it would slow them down.

telmel You have made several adverse remarks by using the word BOTH in your reply, you are inferring that there is someone else involved - or some conspiracy against you, you hadn't been mentioned on this topic until you chose to become involved.

You have earlier posted some very adverse comments - regarding my state of health. It is unlikely this thread will actually be removed (which seems your intent) but it is possible it will be locked. Leaving you unable to EDIT your comments, to try to hide what you've actually said.

May I respectfully ask WHY if you don't post for points you seem to go out of your way to find "News Topics" that are of little interest to most?

How do you know Golfforall doesn't help charities, visiting elderly neighbours etc? If he's anything like myself he probably does. But unless you've some proof to the contrary I suggest you SHUT UP. You're making yourself look very vindictive.

Furthermore you constantly inferring that there is any collaboration between me and GFA makes you seem more than a little paranoid, if you did actually follow chat you would have noticed we don't agree on many things, but we do so in in a civilized manner. You CAN'T agree with anyone or admit when you're obviously wrong. (which you frequently are).

Would you like it if you got numerous notifications just to find they're nothing more than stupid GIFS? - Obviously admin didn't like it, the last time you did it to me, very recently, they were removed. I didn't have to ask for their removal either - I'd have preferred they stayed so everyone could see how you "tried" to upset me.

You would probably react to being sent notifications to harass you by screaming you were being bullied. (you have done before)

Please don't insult my humour by comparing it to yours.

I'm afraid , sadly , some members have shown on this post that there is little community spirit on this site , most are members solely to wring as many points out of it as possible 🙁, with little or no thought for fellow members .

OK if I post a Golf club for £300 I do not expect it to be liked (even if it is £200 off) , deals are mostly subjective after all . But when I post a deal (effectively a free £2.20 ) I would have expected a few members to "Like" it (just 4 did ) to put it on the popular page and bring it to the attention of fellow members .

Obviously many member's mindset is that "if I don't get 5 points for it" I won't press the "like " button !

Just like many members "click and pasting " terrible Amazon deals - Why ? because it is quick and effortless - who cares that in general they are poor deals ? Is it worth spending a bit longer to find a good deal ? Of course not for many members 🙄.

Add to this the few members who shamelessly "game" the Chat facility for points and you have it in a nutshell , members get the Deals site they deserve 😓.

Can easily be changed if members treat the site as a community (where members help each other ) and not as a "points earning " exercise .

Surely members would feel happier if they knew they had posted a great deal ? Rather than a poor deal because it's quick and easy and earns them 100 points ?

So members you get the deals site you deserve and if we all post better deals then the site will be so much better . Not Rocket science is it ?

I didn't know that getting points for likes has been disabled, that's a good thing as many used to 'like' deals just to get points. I actually didn't do that, except when I'd actually buy that or thought it was a good deal.

Moreover, TCB/Quidco may not track cashback if you're blocking tracking and so on, so careful with the browser you use and its options.

I just think that genuine members , who like posting only deals , expect deals (posted by other members ) to also be good deals . Sadly this is far from true due to members treating this as a "points earning " site .

"Liking" a deal (even though no longer earning 5 points ) could put it on the "popular" page and bring it to the attention of fellow members , to their obvious benefit .

Under the old 5 points per "like" system members just came on site and clicked the first 5 "deals" they came across . Members , it's your fault for not taking your "likes" seriously and effectively making the "popular " page random , pointless and self sustaining .

The new system hinted at by Kelsey earlier in this post could work if members actually cared about the site ?

Me, I'm afraid it will just lead to the typical member treating a "swipe to like" just like a click to like as used to be 😒.

I admire the aim of the Latest Deals team to give back to the community with points . Sadly at every step members have proved they are only interested in garnering points , not sharing with the community .

This is proven by members who daily post 3 "non deals" and 3 vouchers each and every day and of course the 4 or 5 members who each and every day also post 2 "In the news " Chat topics .

So in conclusion - Members you do get the "deals site" you deserve and it will stay as such until members take a pride in it , take responsibility and pride their posts and cease to use it solely as a "points earning " site as ,sadly, the vast majority do at present 😒.

In fact it is quite the opposite the more I see of him saying things like this the greater any gulf between us becomes.

I see it as nothing more than an attempt to influence others who have also formed a dislike to him.

I am quite entitled to deny any accusation that has been aimed at me. Those who've seen other things posted about me will, I hope, fully understand.
