Metal Detectorist Finds Miniature Gold Bible
In the News
This is a fantastic find! can you imagine the feeling of finding such an object !!
The miniature book was found near property once owned by King Richard III
A small gold bible, once perhaps owned by a medieval aristocrat or royal, has been found by a metal detectorist.
The 600-year-old object, which is just 0.5in (1.5cm) long, could be worth more than £100,000, Mrs Bailey said.
An expert described it as an "exceptionally unique" artefact which would have originally been owned by someone "incredibly wealthy"
The object weighs just 0.2oz (5g) and is either 22 or 24ct gold, and is thought to date back to the 15th Centutry
The images are of St Leonard and St Margaret - who were both patron saints of childbirth

This kind of thing always makes me wonder what might be found in my Garden. But the wife just won't let me dig it up to find out.
When you think about the craftsmanship involved in making such a beautiful object and when you think of the spiritual meaning of the two patron saints of childbirth, as so many women died in childbirth at that time. It's just a special object - a find of a lifetime.
This is absolutley beautiful. I have recently got a metal detector, just for fun on the beach and on our land. It was a bargain too at £50 brand new. I would love to find this but of course you do have to register your treasures to the authority or you can get in serious trouble.
Recently I have seen a lot of stories where a metal detectorist has come to the rescue in finding wedding rings, helping archaeologists.
