Cow's milk actually makes it harder for the body to absorb iron. Toddlers can develop iron deficiency anemia if they drink too much cow's milk (more than 24 ounces a day) and do not eat enough foods that are rich in iron such as green leafy vegetables and red meat.
So where doctors say milk good for Norns they don’t actually tell you the other effects
Thats true A, we are more informed now than we used to be about cows milk , i was watching a very good documentary on neflix about a month ago abouth health and it showed a farm in america producing ''raw'' milk, this is untreated cows milk
Its banned in some places because untreated milk can cause severe illness , but they were allowed to sell it from this particular farm, and people loved it as it was creamier and giving health benefits to the people taking it , despite the other risks involved in unpasteurised milk and the fact two people had died from taking their milk over the years
I am using only coconut, almond and oat milk . I think its much healthier , using it when I am making pancakes, for my smoothies, even for a milkshakes, taste great.
But when I grow up, my nana had a cow ,so had plenty of "raw" milk, tasted great.
Coconut , almond and oat milk are great alternatives N, but you have to be careful of the content of the milk you buy, most supermarkets sell it with only minute quantities , eg 5% almond content only , the rest is water and additives
You can normally tell this by the price , the larger the content the more expensive it can be
If you want more sometimes you have to purchase from a specialist
telmel I know ,I always checking all what I am buying . Also start to think about to make almond milk myself.
NatalyKroxa I’ve tried them and use soya milk. And oat milk. But I still don’t consider them to be Milk.
telmel I’ve even made my own oat milk and coconut milk and almond. I found almond to be the nicest when made. But it’s no cheaper making it yourself. It’s Just that you know there is only your ingredients. I used the almond bits to make almond bread after.
So doing that makes it go further money wise.
The almond bread was nice.
But for me it was a lot of hassle.
It’s mainly water and flavoured slightly by almond or coconut.
Oat Milk still cost loads to buy even oats are the cheapest. It’s all a con. People want to change habits and they know this and charge loads for the pleasure.
I did have a bit of fun trying these out by making them at home.
Almond most expensive then coconut. Oats the cheapest. I didn’t make soya didn’t try that one. I am moving onto oat milk as soya can effect estrogen levels. It’s not suitable for young boys apparently.
Like I said I still don’t considered them to be a milk.
rossruby1977 The only one what I am not using is soya milk, also can't eat soya yogurts.
NatalyKroxa Have you made your own ? I get the sugar free ones. As diabetic. But when I made them I added a date that sweetness it up. This was before I got type 2. Also you can add vanilla flavour to the almond one. Was nice and fresh. Just pricey.
NatalyKroxa I’m coming off soya soon. I got a good price for some so stocked up. Tried oat again recently, just going to looked around again. Try some cheaper brands. See what suits me the most.
rossruby1977 I didn't yet ,but I think I will try.I am getting unsweetened, I prefer natural taste so not sure that I even need vanilla or something else, but thank you anyway for advice.
NatalyKroxa go on YouTube lots of different ways. I wouldn’t bother with vanilla cost more anyway. I preferred it just almond. But you can use the almond after for bread etc. If you don’t have enough freeze it until you do. The same can be done with the coconut. If you use it this way. It brings the cost down plus you are not wasting money
I am more than happy with whole cows milk. Even when I was dieting, I still used whole milk and lost 2lbs a week. The body does need some saturated fat.
I use normal semi skimmed myself R, i have tried almond milk etc and i liked the taste and the fact it should be healthier but i stopped using it when i noticed how little almond content there was in it , i buy almonds now to eat raw, i suppose if i wanted i could crush and liquidise the nuts and make my own , but it seems like too much trouble to go to
RegularComper90 I’ve read that it’s ok to have full fat. Doesn’t make much difference. I occasionally have dairy now. But mostly stopped it two years ago. Was on semi skimmed then read the article saying full fat wasn’t that bad. But they could if change their minds again.
I tried skimmed once T but its a little too watery for my taste even though i know it has the least fat
They should have included pea milk. It's high in protein, has 50% more calcium than regular milk and is more environmentally friendly to produce than cows milk -

arc I never heard of it before.Something to add to my next order from Holland&Barrett .
TheChimp Waitrose currently have a couple of varieties on offer for £1.35, until the 29th June.
I have a fridge full of pea milk that I got free through Green Jinn as it was offered free every week for weeks on end. It's nice on cereals but I'll stick to cow's milk in hot drinks. You can buy it in sainsbury's and tesco.
I purchase semi skimmed milk, my family prefer it nowadays. Used to buy full fat when kids were younger but now it’s semi. We do use almond milk too, for making smoothies.
