MOTD Match of the Day - Who's Going to Host

Ask a Question

The BBC has since confirmed there will be no presenter or pundits for this weekend’s show😬

Comedian Joe Lycett has said he is “very much available” to step in for Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker.

But who do you think might?

Good. The programme is a load of rubbish.

My husband is actually looking forward to watching it without the presenters as he just wants to see the football and not hear all of them talking.

I think the BBC have just shown they don't know what impartial is considering whats happened with Richard Sharp and the Conservative party.

I like Gary Lineker but don't agree with his opinion at all I think its the typical moronic idealistic viewpoint that is highly destructive. The country is hugely overpopulated and its going to be a real struggle in the future to have food security with such a high population and reliant on food imports and the capacity of the world to produce food will drop in the future with global warming and more severe weather. Then there is the effect on the economy and our finances and resources. It's a good move to have highly skilled immigrants or people who bring in financial resources but not those that will need financial support. We have to stop being so idealistic and become realistic. In the next decades a chunk of the UK will be lost to rising sea levels. I live close to the somerset levels which are highly vulnerable. The huge debts of the UK already means we can expect much greater poverty in the future. Many such immigrants come from countries with extreme religious views. There is already about 3000 high risk potential terrorist type people in the UK and lesser risk individuals run into the 10s of thousands.

We have to be realistic not idealistic. His soundbite is just an opinion formed from a surface only look at the problem. Gary didn't come up with any solutions or ideas just pure criticism and no understanding of the problem. A child's viewpoint pretty much, just an emotional response which was worthless quite frankly.

I remember reading the wages Lineker was paid £1.35 million by the BBC and recall remarking that my husband could easily do his job.

The corporation's two highest earners, former England football hero and Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker and Radio 2 Breakfast Show host Zoe Ball, have both seen a small cut in their salaries, though with Lineker bringing in £1.35m and Ball clocking up just under £1m.

I think the next presenter will be Alex scott or Diane Abbott. Personally I think Bez from happy Mondays would be great 👍

I think the BBC could re-float the million pound salaries back into reduced fees and/or some quality drama and just let the footie game commence by itself!

Bossclaz you'd save BBC license fee payers about £25,000 a week.

A programme of 20 minutes saved my Saturday evening, usually I go for a bath and to bed to avoid it but it was over in the blink of an eye, no need for talking etc. It's the future.

Seems to be a huge spike in tv license cancellations at the moment. Not sure if that is to do with Gary Lineker's views or just people annoyed about how much he is payed which the recent news has drawn attention to. Again from my perspective if they are a commercial company they can pay people what they like no problem and if they aren't competitively priced for their service they will go out of business but as the BBC is pretty much forced taxation if you want to watch live tv from any service it needs to be fair and responsible how much it pays to people.

I don't have a TV license but when I'm in other locations where they have it like relatives and pubs etc and see him he does a very good job of commentating I have to say but I really wondered if he was offered a £200k wage in the first place for commentating if he would have refused it and if he did I wonder if another similar footballer of his age would have accepted it who could have done just as good a job. Ultimately I don't pay a penny to the BBC though so it isn't really my concern but perhaps if the BBC focused more on high quality general entertainment shows for a wide audience they would attract viewers back.

I’m sure there were thousands of football fans who enjoyed just watching the game without the constant commentary.
