M&S New Chilli and Cheese Hot Cross Buns,

In the News

M&S New Chilli and Cheese Hot Cross Buns, haven't gone down well with Shoppers. Most seem to think it's wrong to call these savory Buns Hot Cross Buns.

Think I tend to agree , shops will play about with all sorts of food just to try and make extra profit . thou I'm not against these Cheese and Chilli Rolls/Buns why call them Hot Cross Buns .

Wonder what the rest of you think good idea or not?

Sadly these food producers feel they need to keep reinventing the wheel.

I love chilli and cheese as a combination, but not on hot cross buns. Not a fan of buns at all. They keep pitching new combinations each year, and I avoid them all - explains why after Easter they all go down to about 10p to get rid of them

Hot Cross Buns are only called that because of the cross (crucifix symbol), they can be any bun at all ingredient wise. Waitrose do an apple hot cross bun and it's gorgeous, these sound lovely too

Traditionally thou they are sweet spiced buns thou not savory, and that stems back 100's of years.

Variation's have become common only for commercial gain

Mango4 it was a 12th century Monk that first put the cross on the bun, the cross to symbolise the crucifix and the spices were spices used in the embalming of Jesus. They were baked with any ingredients, sweet or savoury dependent on what was given up for Lent as long as the correct spices were used.

I've not eaten them until recent years as I don't like currants, nutmeg or cinnamon (nightmare at Christmas) so I welcome the new varieties

I’m sure my husband would love the new flavour but I won’t buy them because he’ll have to eat the whole packet with sharing.
