Muscle Pain Treatments - Any Recommendations?
Ask a Question
There's a vast array of joint and muscle pain treatments out there, its mind boggling!
I'd rather use a topical treatment than oral medication like paracetamol or ibuprofen for aching shoulders or leg muscles.
Voltrol seems ok but the side effects listed are disturbing!
Anyone have a recommendations?
SAdeals I use Deep Freeze either spray, gel, roll-on or patch. Wheat bag and ice pack. Work better for me than Deep Heat. Voltarol did absolutely nothing, Boots own brand was more effective.
I've used this for a couple of years now and swear by it. Actimas - Celafen Muscle & Joint Rub
Another drug-free treatment for stiff joints is the Celafen cream. It contains Celafen, a natural product that works by lubricating the cell membranes and repelling inflammatory chemicals responsible for the pain and stiffness associated with arthritis. Celafen contains a clinically tested patented ingredient called celadrin which is a complex of esterified fatty acids. According to the makers
The cream has been shown in published research to deliver effective pain relief to stiff, painful or arthritic joints within just 30 minutes, making it 15% faster than conventional painkillers.
Hope this helps you as this helps me and my family to ease shoulder and knee pain.
I have to use a vast array of meds, take 8 different types daily and have morphine on standby. I suffer from muscle pain and neuropathic pain. But aside from that i use wheat bags and have a heat pad that you plug it which is really good. But the best thing i would suggest is seeing a physio if you can or just searching for gentle stretches for the effected area, dont over do it and repeat them 2 or 3 times daily
neo1 gosh I'm so sorry to hear about how much you are suffering from your muscle and neuropathic pain.
Thanks for sharing your experience and advice about these treatments. I haven't tried the wheat bag for a long time now so will definitely bring that out. Together with some physio stretching I'm sure I will see an improvement. Take care
You could try tiger balm. The patch versions, like salonpas, are quite good. Otherwise you can try to make your own
I had an accident last year and have some serious back issues. What helps me is a heated blanket and back strengthening exercises. I also take paracetamol and have regular physio
But I have to say the heated blanket at night really does help the stiffness and pains
If you don't want side effects then go the natural route. Look up which essential oils are good for muscle pain and make up your own potion.
Thanks Lynibis I took screenshot of ingredients I hope youβre will not mind
Jasmine111 of course not I hoped they may be of use. I think eucalyptus and peppermint are also good and essential oils have no known contra indications.
Thanks Lynibis i will check all these for mother in law she always complain muscle pain her beck and especially her legs.i hope youβre fine after the incident other day. take care have a wonderful evening
When I had a bad back, I used a TENS machine which is supposed to shop pain messages going from your brain, OK for mild pain.
Also used Ice and hot water bottles. Full disclosure this was in conjunction with pain medication, as I was in agony before I could take the next pill
I first learned out about this from a quiz question (I wasn't sure if it was recommended to drink or rub in). I was more than a little skeptical at first but found it helps with cramp, joint and muscle pain and is virtually free. It is to drink pickle vinegar, I quite enjoy the vinegar from sweet silverskin onions but any pickle vinegar will do.
There are numerous other health benefits and well worth a try. This is just one of many articles you will find about it online. https://www.healthline.com/health/food-nutrition/drinking-pickle-juice#hydration
I can well believe this David as D2 sufferers are advised to eat pickled foods. Luckily I like pickled onions and gherkins.
Lynibis I found almost instant relief (knees and lower legs) and also notice that if I don't eat pickles and drink the vinegar for a few days that night cramp and pain in legs returns. As you've said research shows it can also help regulate type 2 diabetes.
Don't forget to drink the left over vinegar from pickles though. I never liked wasting it but now don't
Tesco has some own brand ibuprofen gels for about 2 quid per 40g. I find them to be much more helpful than oral medication.
It might interest you to know that Poundland and many other pound shops sell 50g tubes that are only Β£1. The specifications are similar to the more expensive ones.https://www.poundland.co.uk/92484-ibuprofen-gel-5-50g/
SAVERS same quantity and price.https://savers.co.uk/Health/Pain-Relief/Pain-Gels-&-Rubs/Care-Ibuprofen-5%25-Gel-50g/p/10657
davidstockport that's brilliant! Thank you very much for this information. I have a local Poundland store so I will check it out tomorrow!
SAdeals Happy to have helped save you some money, as daft as it sounds do try the previously mentioned pickle vinegar, I gave it a try and was amazed at the results. And do remember that topical creams or gels, although not swallowed, are absorbed into the system so are not without possible side effects.
SAdeals If you are going to a Poundland shop you might care to give their muscle rub cream a try (Β£1 for a 70mg tube). Both the ibuprofen gel and cream are in red tubes and red boxes. https://www.poundland.co.uk/137574-masterplast-heat-rub-massaging-cream-70g/
davidstockport thank you! I've made a Note of it. Is it like deep heat? Great price too. Its showing as Β£3 from Amazon!
