It Must Be National Appliance Breakdown Day

Other

So far today we've had a Microwave and Tumble Dryer go kaput.

They say these things come in 3's, so I've now got to decide which cheap appliance I don't like/won't miss and start using it 😜

Lol the other day I put on a washing load, pressed start and nothing happened. I was checking plugs, switches etc, nothing, so resigned myself to buying another as it is pretty old. I found one online but wandered over to the machine for a last go and realised.........I hadn't pushed the on/off button!

(It is separate to the start button)

I haven't used a microwave for over 15 years and don't miss it, but I couldn't do without my tumble dryer, I've repaired it a couple of times and find that they are mostly easy enough to repair.

As microwaves and tumble dryers are usually both long lasting appliances, it seems very bad luck that both should give up the ghost on the same day. Is there any chance that a mains fuse has blown? Easily checked by plugging another appliance into one of the sockets - or failing that check the individual fuses in the plugs, it's amazing how many electrical goods are discarded when it's nothing more than a blown fuse.

There might have been a power surge that caused two fuses to blow.

I had hoped it was a fuse problem, alas the dryer started making a strange strangulated sound, It sounds to me like the bearing have gone in the drum.

I changed the plug on the microwave but to no avail, also checked the circuit they are both on was working ok and it was.

blacklabrador If you want to replace the bearings on the dryer, there are some very good videos on YouTube, some makes are easier than others, but I don't think any specialised tools are required for any. Best of luck.😀

This about microwaves might be of interest https://www.fix.com/repair/appliance/microwave/wont-turn-on/

Around Christmas time our TV, cooker and down light all went within the space of a few days, so I feel your pain! Our sound bar went a few days ago so I'm hoping it was just a one off! It's expensive when they all go at the same time!

If we can have national holidays, then why can't our appliances? 😆

Well the good news is at least nothing else has broken down, fingers crossed.

I spoke too soon.

Sure enough the third thing broke down today, our dehumidifier has decided it's had enough of sucking moisture from the air, now it just sits there wheezing like an asthmatic ant.

I swear I'd be a rich man if these appliances lasted like they used to.
