Needing ID to Buy Meds
Other
Last week I was trying to buy a pack of nurofen designed for cold/flu from Savers but I noticed a sign saying you have to be over 25 (I'm sure it said 25! > I'm 28) for paracetamol and I asked the store worker and he said he wasn't sure about the nurofen but paracetamol had a definite restriction. So I just left it as I didn't have ID and a few people have told me I look 18 so I didn't think they would believe me anyway.
It was for a good price and all
I wonder if all the shops have this policy
Well I never even knew here was an age restriction ,once 18. I fully understand how easy it is to take too many, and how they could have an adverse effect on other meds!!
BilgehanDeniz yes I remember Asda not letting customers buy more than two packs of paracetamol
Nadiaparveen ohh it is still same even with kids parecetomal or any nurofen etc but age restriction abovr 18 sounds silly to me tbh
Accidental Overdose of Paracetemol horrendously painful and no reverse procedure so always well to err on the side of caution and limit amount sold and age sold to..but 18yrs the rule I believe.
MelissaLee1963 MelissaLee1963 yes I remember hearing on the news of a young mother overdosing on Paracetamols, accidentally after having surgery on her teeth, in severe pain, just trying to get some relief, don’t know if they (Hosp) made her aware! She had a young family .
CarolSarich Sad v v v sad the other thing people often ignore is saturation point.Things don't necessarily work better when you surpass a certain limit anyway...like drinking twenty whiskys i suppose!
I work in retail and would only ask for ID if you look really young. I dont usually ask unless I have to
I've always know that you have to be 18 to get any meds even in the home bargain they ask for id
I know some places id and others dont, i guess it depends on the person and their judgement, bet you could have gotten away without id if it was t mentioned.
I don't remember being asked for ID to buy painkillers, but I guess it's gotten worse.
Get addicted, and you'll have a hard time getting off of it. Thankfully, it's nowhere near as bad as Oxy.
I think you have to be 16 to buy paracetamol and brufen but some shops have different policies, like Think 25 which means that if you look pretty young 16, you will be challenged under the policy but would normally be sold the item with valid ID, there's also a restriction on the amount that you can buy.
Its annoying enough that you can only buy two packets of pain relief without having to show ID. Luckily I look nice and old so rarely have an issue!
I got ID'd in tesco when buying calpol, I was 20 at the time , I'm sure it's 16 to buy paracetamol
It's 16 to buy paracetamol, but it's challenge 25. If you are lucky( or unlucky) enough to look under 25 staff meant ask for ID to prove your are 16 and over for medicines. I get asked all the time. My eldest daughter told me I look 13 the other day. I'm 35. My daughter nearly 13.
Most supermarkets do - years ago, I tried to buy lempsip from Sainsburys and they wanted ID. Tbh if you don’t have it and explicitly state that you’re way older than the age specified, they usually allow it
Most shops have challenge 25, so if you look under 25 they will ID you. I was buying superglue from B&M a few months ago and I got asked for ID. I always get asked for ID, my husband never gets asked for ID.
Madness! You can buy as much alcohol as you like and cigarettes cleaning products aerosols and cough medicines but only 1 packet of paracetamol or nurofen!
I was in the coop the other day on the self service machines buying paracetamol. Came up as age restricted product. So had to have a shop keeper to press a button to say i was ok to buy. I think these days it think 21
