It's really unbelievable isn't it? The country is groaning under the weight of our national debt, people are hungry and cold but they can spend 7mill on this! Surely they could repair it for far less. This is the second topic I have commented on this morning that has raised my blood pressure.😠

They really like to throw taxpayers money around M, considering how many houses you could buy for the renovation of one door, that is not even replacing it

telmel I could understand some expense for heritage and structural repair but no way anything like this! To much bashing by the Black Rod lol.

MelissaLee1 They should just install a door knocker or chime, it would be a lot cheaper 😉

This is where it's at, can't or don't want to imagine where it'll be in 5-7 years (the "magical" 2030 year).

It's a disgrace and demonstrates just how out of touch they are with the public.

a ) it's the door to the House of LORDS , not the house of Commons (our parliament ).

b) It's the Palace of Westminster , an historic building where repairs don't come cheap .

Could members who just post news articles to garner points at least acquaint themselves and understand the story (just for a change ?)

I'm sure we could go the Scottish route and have a legislative building that could be repaired by a couple of IKEA doors ?

I get the sentiment , but maybe I would pay more attention if the points garnerer posting it actually got the location of the door right ? (By the way , it's not just about the actual door but mainly due to the cost of the security involved ) . But why let facts get in the way of a points garnering opportunity 😒?

Mea Culpa. House of Lords it is. I was mega wrong ,huge difference between the two of course. I will correct my mistake post haste if I can. Doesn't detract though from the main point being made about what most of us deem to be huge and un-necessary expenditure at a time when many struggle to keep warm and put food on the table. As someone living on a reduced income I am, as always more than grateful that LD yet see fit to reward our site involvement with points and incentives.

MelissaLee1 to be honest I think the Lords need to go all together. It's completely corrupt and a total waste of taxpayers' money.

I don't think Bob Dylan ever thought Heaven's Door would be less expensive to knock on as the one at the House of Lords, maybe Guns N' Roses did 😉

And why not? It's only the "little" people who pay their honest taxes footing the bills as usual.

Been thinking about it. They're actually not going to spend £7mil, they'll just use most of that money in a money laundering scheme and tell the public the door costs £7mil.

Wouldn't surprise if it that money went to the country in Eastern Europe... 🤨

PhilipMarc We should have a itemised published bill and a breakdown of works as well as names of company directors etc. They cannot be allowed to just sneak this one in under some etheric radar.

Imnotcheap Yes, and there are plenty of buildings and houses with metal doors attached to it so no one can get in.

If they wanted to help the homeless, they'd make use of those buildings. They're not abandoned, just not used for now.
