New Petrol and Diesel Vehicles Sales Ban in UK from 2035
In the News
The last date to buy a new petrol, diesel or hybrid car in the UK will be brought forward from 2040 to 2035, under government plans.
The change is being made to help Britain achieve virtually zero carbon emissions by the middle of the century.
Surely it will mean that people will buy older diesel and petrol cars which could potentially be even more harmful to the climate. Whoever their advisor was on this, they obviously didn't think too hard about it. They need to focus on the infrastructure to sustain electric, or other vehicles now otherwise all of this will be pointless
They should help people to buy better cars. Just think about it who owns those cars....poor people
Seems a good decision to me, it helps the car industry focus on what they are doing in the future. People will still be able to drive existing cars and many I'm sure will be on the road for a decade or more beyond that. The whole electric car industry is poorly thought out at the moment with permanent batteries. Cars should have quickly removable cells that can be swopped at service stations. It's unlikely we will ever have instant charging of batteries and its not viable for everyone to have electric cars currently. Cars need to move to an industry standard with sets of cells, i.e. 8 cells, 4 in the boot, 4 in the front etc, maybe 8kg each with maybe a permanent battery still under the passenger compartment. Current designs make no sense and are useless for long journeys.
So need to move an industry standard for removable cells and there is no sign of that currently. We also need to move to much smaller vehicles. Smaller single person vehicles should be more common.
Dont know if they've thought this through...our houses go alongside of others on our street,so theres just a path, and the car park is a few yards away,so nowhere to put anything for charging for electric cars....
It is like any government initiative, (hopefully) good intentions but both badly planned and followed through.
Clearly people in that situation will still be using a combustion engine I guess but there may well be parking where you work with charging points and when commercial charging points are faster and more common you will just go to a charging point. Not everyone will have the option of charging at home unfortunately.
So they want to be environmentally friendly? That's gonna take them ages to repair.
London for example feels very polluted whether it's the metro, buses or some automobiles driven by people themselves.
