New Stamps Released to Mark 50th Anniversary of UK's First Pride March

I was really surprised when I read that the UK first Price took place 1st July 1972. They couldn't have had that much publicity, or I was completely oblivious, as I would have thought they had only been in existence for the last 15 - 20 years. Unless they have grown in scale and are now more mainstream as society is more relaxed about people's sexuality.
Did you know they started that long ago ?
I'm wholly non judgemental about what people do in their private lives but I don't think any of us need to overly flaunt our sexuality. I think hidden undertones leave much more to the imagination and are by virtue far more sexy than fleshpots in gay abandon. Not opposed to people having fun but we don't have hetero pride marches .Or do we? Maybe I'm just an old party pooper lol.
MelissaLee1963 it’s not about flaunting sexuality - although heterosexuality is ’flaunted‘ throughout every aspect of life you just don’t notice it (perfume adverts, people saying to small children “do you have a boyfriend/girlfriend?”, film, tv, music etc - it’s about recognising, celebrating and fighting to be able to exist and have the same rights that some have been afforded automatically, but others have had to fight and I’m some poor instances, had to die for.
lornaae I 100% respect the call for equality and justice. I'm head of the protest march and the first to write letters to MPs for that but I have never felt that we need sex to sell things much though the media has always been directed that way I agree.
There's a saying about 'pride' and a certain ethnicity of people can't be proud of who they are (or else they're labeled the r-word).
I didn't realise that Pride was 50. I only really remember hearing about it in the last 15 years or so. We had one where we live recently. No idea if they have had one before as only been here a year.
I think it is wrong for the Post Office to recognize Pride as a noble cause. Only famous achievements should be honoured on postage stamps.
