What are Your New Year Resolutions?

Ask a Question

So every year people make new year resolutions. Personally I choose something based on making something good for the community/other people...to get that good feeling of making a difference to others rather than disappointed feeling I never saved more/lost weight etc. Last year I donated to charity each month. This year I intend to help support my local community/wildlife in the area. I have joined the local conservation group, so hopefully I can achieve this. What is everyone else's?

Leannexxx I'll probably have cold turkey in the new year, but I doubt if I'll give up smoking.

I'm going to make better food for me and MrsChimp instead of eating crap all the time. I've been very lazy cooking wise in the last 6 months.

Leannexxx hi Leanne, please don't be cross with me for my comment but here goes. I can think of three fantastic reasons for you to stop, the first being your health. It may seem fine but I assure you it will be better when (not if) you stop and keep you around for your girls longer. Secondly, if you have made a promise to your girls you must keep it as it will be a wonderful life lesson, otherwise promises will mean nothing to them, just something people say. Thirdly think of the money you will save. I just cannot understand how a 20 a day smoker (not speaking of you) can afford £80+ per week and two in same house doesn't bear thinking of. I feel as if I know you a little through chat and would love to hear you've done it. Here's a challenge, give me 3 good reasons to continue smoking. Good luck x

Leannexxx The local convenience shop sells them if you ask, but they are as rough as a badger's arse. I'll stick with the Tesco ones hoping that I'll get less respiratory disease and cancer

I don’t ever stick to them so won’t put myself under pressure. Just getting through each year is an achievement for me. I do need to concentrate on my finances though and to hopefully keep as healthy as possible.

I make resolutions throughout the year when I feel there is something I need to do or change. I have totally weaned myself off the soaps and feel so much better for gaining a whole working day each week. Although I probably still eat more sugar than I should I have drastically cut down my intake. I also make more effort to keep in touch with and visit family/friends. Can't think of anything I particularly want to do at the moment, but it's a work in progress!

Lynibis I'm terrible with sugar. I eat loads of Haribo and the like. I'll soon be moaning when my teeth rot.

You should really use soap though, otherwise you'll smell

TheChimp lol thanks, I

wondered why people give me a wide berth!

On a serious note I do prefer soap to shower gels, they never seem to rinse off and feel slimy.

kitty88uk do it step by step. I started by having a late breakfast around 11/12 then my evening meal around 6/7pm. No snacks or puddings as I realised they were not necessary. I wish I had listened earlier to advice as I ate far too much sugar but diabetes info was not out there back then. Eventually the poor old pancreas can't keep up and gives up.

I believe society is to blame with creating more and more delicious rubbish, but on the other hand we are not forced to eat it😕 Happy Christmas

Research shows that most people give up on these by mid January anyway! Every year, I just make a commitment to myself to do my best throughout the year 😃

I never make resolutions but I will definitely be trying to seriously lose some weight. I have the equipment just need the motivation. Maybe we can start a motivation group on here and encourage each other. Plus add some helpful advice.

eyeballkerry a motivation group sounds great. I done the weight loss a few years ago. Booking a beach holiday with a skinny friend was the motivation I needed to lose a few pounds (lose my baby belly). Done the job - 6 months of each morning up and half hour workout before anyone else up, upped my walking and movement, resisted to many sweet treats and lost a stone, and felt comfortable in a bikini (not something I had for at least 10 years!)....would.like to point out once holiday done, I stopped and now would not wear the bikini🤣

Well done you for getting the bikini body you wanted. After four children this is never going to happen but I just need to get motivated and stick to it.
