Will You Get the NHS COVID-19 App?

In the News

The NHS for England and Wales has released the official coronavirus COVID-19 app. This automatically alerts you if another app user who was in close proximity has reported they have symptoms.

I downloaded the app today and this is what it looks like:

The app is free and available on the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store:

Cheeky side note - Whilst you’re in the App Store, download the Latest Deals app.

Scotland and Ireland have separate apps which have been available for some time. You can also find these on the app stores.

Once people accept lockdowns to be normalized, there's no going back for those folks. They've surrended freedom for fearmongering.

For this app to work.... Handsets must have Android 6.0 (released in 2015) or iOS 13.5 (released in May 2020) and Bluetooth 4.0 or higher. That excludes the iPhone 6 and older versions of Apple's handsets

No objection in principle but I think I'll give it a day or two and read reports on it to see if there are any glitches that crop up .

I won't down load the Latest Deals App as I believe this facilitates members to post rubbish "click and paste" non deals with a few taps . Sadly many members post exactly 3 non deals (normally Amazon market place ) and 3 vouchers per day using this method swamping the site with garbage.

I prefer the main site where I can consider and describe a deal when and if I find one .

In my opinion (based on logic) it would need a very large proportion of the population to actually have compatible smart phones and to always carry them at all times, for it to do much good. Remember if you do use one it won't let you know if you have come into near contact with a virus carrier, unless they were also carrying a compatible smartphone with the app enabled.

Perhaps I am missing something - as said the above is an opinion based on what I know.

I'm not getting out of my house apart from the daily early walk when I see no one. So I don't think I will for now.

Have fun being in lockdown again.

Sorry that I said that, but some people actually enjoy that somehow. I suppose once it's normalized, it's implemented in them that it's just part of daily life.

Lockdowns do nothing good, actually the opposite.

PhilipMarc already in lockdown because idiots won’t a pint or two or parents allowing teenagers to do what they wont

Well, damn. That's an awful way to live life, being locked up against one's will.

No wonder people in Madrid have decided to protest against the lockdown there. Ann1984

Well I've downloaded it and will use it . However I do wonder how many firms will accept your notification to self isolate (on just the say so of the app) as a valid reason for you taking 2 weeks off on full pay ?

From what I gather you will not know where or from who you may have been exposed .

No, fed up of hearing about it. Let's face it, there's different strains of it and there's too many people being paranoid. My elderly father had two strokes, went into hospital, caught covid in there, and he recovered. I have heard that some have died, so I try to take precautions, but if you let this virus get to you, you'll die of stress!
