Non-Alcoholic Spirits, What's That All about Then?

Other

Have seen quite a few comps offering these as prizes, but not quite sure what the point of them is. If they have no alcohol, by definition they are soft drinks and surely we have enough of them. If you don't drink any number of drinks can cover for you, lemonade or come can have a 'pretend' spirit in it.

Am I missing something?

I’ve no idea. I don’t drink and have zero interest in fake non alcoholic spirits lol.

gimmick imo

My guess is that those sort of drinks are for those trying to give up alcohol or don't like the taste of alcohol, but still like to fit in with the crowd.

But yeah, it's silly. You can't beat the real thing, though only in moderation.

Really? You can't think how useful they are? Not all people want to drink soft drinks, some of these taste like win or beer and it makes you look like you are joining in, with the alcohol drinks plus the taste on some of them is really nice. It's a useful socialising tool. Yes, obviously missing these points.

Who is to know whether your coke has vodka in it or gin in your lemonade. And as I said it is a soft drink if it is non alcoholic. There is no need to be quite so abrasive with your comments. I don't understand why you like to put people down.

Lynibis There is beer too. Some men don't want to seen as being soft and they want a beer in their hands. Similarly the taste can be very much like the original, its not about masking a drink it's about making it look like you have a drink and it's the same as anyone else. Other than that it's about having a drink which tastes like alcohol but has lower alcohol content in it.

I don't think Carole is being abrasive at all, I think you have jumped the gun here and are being a bit off with her.

She only asked really? Obviously she is surprised because in all honesty your question is a bit strange if you can't understand why, it's not hard to know why people want fake or low alcohol, it's not rocket science.

some countries have these drinks only for advertising purposes because it is banned to advertise alcohol. So because of that, manufactures are making these non-alco drinks just to promote brand name. I know it sounds kinda silly but it is true.

Now that does kinda make sense. I certainly don't bother entering competitions to win a bottle of glorified soft drink lol.

Gosh yes. Don't let Piers Morgan hear you or he will go into one of his anti vegetarian rants and hold his head shouting ' the world's gone nuts!'

I have to admit that I, sometimes, enjoy a non-alcoholic take on the real McCoy. I don't like sweet drinks and so a soft drink just doesn't satisfy. Many 0% options are horrible with a nasty aftertaste but some are very acceptable. Becks Blue is light at 53 calories a bottle but has a slightly bitter finish (but better than a sickly sweet soft drink) I've just tried Peroni 0% and found it nearer to the real thing. Sad to say but there are individuals just not happy if the whole company isn't drinking at the same pace so a zero option ensures self preservation. (I've never understood the need to get legless and my friends are like-minded) Many of the spirit options are laughable and taste more of chemicals than botanicals. Personally, I would drink them for the taste knowing they have no impairment on my body. There is also the designated driver to consider.

Yep, that makes sense. I don't drink anything sweet anymore, can't stomach coke, fruit juice etc mainly because too sweet having (almost) beaten the sugar addiction and that came about due to the D2. Don't like beer or wine so not much option for me as if I had fake gin or vodka I wouldn't like the mixer!

When out I have the choice of water or water lol but at home I have started on Pukka herbal teas which is a good alternative in cold weather.

I like the taste of alcohol but can't always drink for various reasons, driving, early start etc etc, it is nice to have the option by still getting the taste but not the after effects, plus having another option to fizzy drinks, water or juice when not drinking, is very welcome.
