What are Your Thoughts on High Prices for Low-Quality Vegetables?

Yep.Cheaper off the plot and from the market stall .Some people just like things brought to the door though eh?

TheChimp - I agree with you. I would rather buy my wonky fruits and vegetables from Aldi and Lidl (I don't shop at either shops) than pay such outrages prices for online goods.

I don't even like paying high prices for high quality veg! Not done a shop this week so thought I would support a local greengrocer on way home. I got 2 medium potatoes and 3 tomatoes (not the big ones) and it cost.............£3.40.

It's obviously a business model that works going by the huge number of positive reviews but personally I can't see the environmental benefit to it. It's best to buy locally produced food and ideally not use your car to collect it. Manufacturing boxes and then shipping parcels around the country full of low value food does not seem environmentally responsible. Already many supermarkets have wonky veg and when I saw a TV segment about such food they said much of it was used in processed food production. Even if the food was composted and then used to enrich the soil that still seems more environmentally positive than this. I just don't see the real world benefit and then when you look at the prices those prices would indicate a fairly costly service to ship fruit and veg they probably pay very little for. So packaging and transportation costs are high which surely is environmentally bad.

I personally think its the difference between realistic and idealistic. Most realistic people would never use this service but those idealistic types who perhaps lack a bit of common sense are probably the likely users of this service.

that is absolutely absurd, most shops sell the same thing at much less and without the damage to the environment caused by delivery services.. i personally use the OLIO app and get free veg and other short dated items from someone that lives within walking distance from me.. check it out on the app stores

In the main I find the veg in supermarkets to be awful as well as expensive. I once complained to Tesco that the cauliflower I bought was actually a floret, I sent a photo of the tiny cauli next to a milk bottle. It had been overpriced in the first place..... I did get a full refund.

Tomatoes are tasteless, we were lucky enough to have our own home grown tomatoes until early December last year. We are now back to the terrible, tasteless ones from the shop. I can't wait to get growing again.

Until I grew swedes myself I thought you always needed a machette to cut them, my home grown ones are delightful, it's almost like cutting butter.

No one in their right mind would pay more for poor quality veg unless it’s organic. A friend pays extortionate amounts for organic veg from a farm shop.

It's sad that at Christmas the stores can do cheap vegetables but throughout the year hike the price up nearly every time I shop, it's a shame my salary hasn't increased. ..
